They were having a perfectly nice, quiet little Alaskan life until Riker's new boss at the timber mill turned out to be Edward Jellico.

These are people who regularly live into their 130s or older. Health care is excellent. They don't apparently have to work to live.

Point being, Riker and Troi in their 50s or 60s could take 20 yrs off from Starfleet to raise kids, then potentially carry out a whole second full career before they reach retirement age. If anything, the actors are too old looking to portray 24th century people of their chronological age.

Future people ought to look more like we do in our 40s when they are approaching 60-70. I would hate to think that future tech just extended the geriatric years instead of extending the midlife years.

I see no reason for them to carry on a second career. They could easily move from career to career rather than just do one.

But what do they do if they aren't in Starfleet? Just tinker around their home? I could see Riker maybe being a Ambassador much like his dad and Troi still is a counselor and see's patients she just not doing it while in Starfleet. As for the others I would like Worf to be captain of the Enterprise, Crusher head of Starfleet medical, Geordi unable to walk because of injuries from the Utopia Planitia shipyards and now spends his time using his engineering skills working and building equipment for people with disabilities like modern wheelchairs, new visors and so forth. Wesley is still exploring other means of existence and is now kind of this weird new age type. A cross between a hippie and Doc Brown.

He is. He just appeared in Doctor Sleep (2019) so he is still acting.

Uh... It was Lwaxana Troi that was the ambassador, Kyle Riker was/is a "civilian strategic attaché to Starfleet, specializing in the frontier regions. He was well-known in his field throughout Starfleet, having a reputation for being "hard as nails" and "getting the job done" (In the RW, he'd probably have been ONI, DIA or maybe even CIA).

But that's potentially a bit of a nit-pick -- though I could see Will doing something like that -- and I broadly agree with the rest of your post.

I could see Riker being an instructor at Starfleet Academy and currently on leave.

With transporters, he could just be home for the day when Picard comes and sees him. But I prefer the idea that he and Troi simply left Starfleet.

Speaking of instructors at Starfleet Academy: how about a Chief O'Brien appearance? Like Worf he was on both TNG and DS9.

This will probably be an unpopular opinion but there's more than life then being Starfleet/The Federation. This is something I've noticed in Star Trek in general. It feels they are presenting starfleet as the end all and be all for human endeavors. Occasionally you see glimpses of other life options: Picard's friend Louie being a director on earth, Bashir's father being an architect, Jake Sisko being a writer etc,. I wish more of this was present in StarTrek personally. So It's shouldn't be seen as odd if even someone who's had had a starfleet career take a sabbatical or consider other oppurtunities.

I imagine he is living on some agricultural colony with Keiko by 2399.

The thing I do appreciate about Picard is that it shows us the characters having moved on with their lives unlike the TOS movies where the characters, especially the supporting ones, felt stagnant.

Last I heard, O'Brien wrote a holonovel staring himself as a railroad mogul trying to build a international rail system. Apparently writing it was hell on wheels. :nyah:

In my personal interpretation of the universe, Cullen Bohannon is an ancestor of Christopher Pike. :techman:

Because the shows are set on the frontier on Starfleet ships and installations. Starfleet is a major part of the entire premise, why we see the arrowhead when they advertise the shows.

Yeah, if you take the Star and Trek out of the show there isnt really much left in it, all you are left with is an ok drama at best and a soap opera at worst.

Just look at what happened with the Caprica spinoff, it was always a risky venture from the start.

There is a very good reason why Picard is already looking to leave the Earth.

I'm curious, other than McCoy in the TNG pilot, where is there another example, in canon, of a human character living that long?

I'm not saying that it's not true, I would think that it would be at that point. But it seems like a widely recognized fact, despite there not being much evidence of that kind of longevity in the shows or movies.
