Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

Ah nvm then its been at least 20 years since I watched it.
It will probably be clearer up close. If you looks at Eaves concept art there are some minor differences, slightly bigger pylons, rear part of the secondary hull is thicker.

But the changes aren't very big.
You don’t want to change it too much. It’ll look like a different ship otherwise.

Slight sidebar: last night I pulled both my DST / AA Enterprise 1701-D and 1701-E (insurrection scheme) electronic starships out of the garage and with a permanent marker, added the missing windows on the Enterprise D’s neck - and then added the missing lifeboats on the Enterprise E’s Saucer section (towards the rear of the saucer, both sides of the bridge module spine).

Overall, adding both sets of missing detail back in makes both Enterprises ‘pop’ - and finishes them off well, IMO.

:)

There are preview pics of episode three that have Picard and Musiker on an away mission in the exact same uniforms as shown in the comics, standing in what appears to be a vineyard. This seems to suggest precisely what was depicted in the Countdown comics.

So, do we know for sure it's canon? Of course not. Does the above support the notion that it could be? Yes. As many have pointed out, the story in Picard was written for the series, but cut out for time. That seems to make it more plausibly canon than the rest.
Also: How many other comics or novels end with "To be continued in (new movie/show)"?

Yes as far as this show so far, yes the three issue Picard: Countdown comic is canon; the uniforms , the ship, and story all are (until something contradicts it) official flashbacks to the show.
It was pretty much written as back up for the show...

Another pic of Picard and Raffi in their USS Verity uniforms.
Mostly that these exist, has me excited that we'll be getting flashbacks to Picard as Admiral
And on mission upon the USS Verity ship
Which should have the more traditional ship oriented viewers very excited!

Picard's last command....
This person did a wonderful model rendering vid of the USS Verity

I would love to see an Odyssey class on Picard or any direct indication of the Odyssey class existence in 2385 or 2399, its a really nice design and gives the impression that Starfleet are returning to the idea of Explorer ships which I am fine with.

I agree, with the Odyssey class it does seem like that the Federation is refocusing on exploration. The Odyssey looks like a cross between the Galaxy and Sovereign classes, with it's size I would assume it has returned to science/exploration focused missions with numerous facilities on board and it looks like the true successor to the Galaxy class.

How would that even make logical sense in a story context to show two differnt versions of the same ship?

It's a shifting hologram in a science fiction series where aliens usually look humanoid, breathe oxygen and speak English. I think we can handle seeing two versions of a starship being projected in the air inside a building.

I used to dislike the Enterprise-F design with a passion. Now I like it. It's become the natural evolution forward from the Sovereign-class and sufficiently bigger that it feels like a significant evolutionary step forward.

Did anyone mention the Verity in the episode? Or that Musiker was his second in command? Or that Picard was even in command of another ship besides the Enterprise?

Because if they didn’t, then nothing in that comic is canon unless they specifically mention any of it in the show. My thoughts: we won’t be seeing an Odyssey class ship in STP, Verity, Enterprise-F, or otherwise. They will be creating their own designs for the show, and not a ship from STO.

That’s the main problem with the ship: it looks too much like the Enterprise-E. From a distance you probably wouldn’t be able to tell them apart unless you specifically knew what to look for. They need to come up with a design that looks nothing like what came before it.

Why?
What's wrong with the next generation of starship looking somewhat similar to the last?
