    Thoughts?

As long as the movie is good I don't care what color or race the director is.

You really sure this is a good idea for a thread? You have to realize how certain people here are going to react.
We've already gotten 2 women directing the Disney+ shows, so it's not that much of a leap for a women to direct one of the movies too.
Maybe Patty Jenkins would be a good choice once she's done with Wonder Woman, or they could just keep Deborah Chow around after she's done with the Obi-Wan series. From the initial reactions to Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) and the footage that's been released, Cathy Han could possibly bring a unique style to the franchise.

A female director will be hired, whom Kathleen Kennedy will fire weeks into production.

The headline, to me, reads as 'happening' as in 1960s slang. Like it's cool, it's hip, it's a trendy kind of groovy happening.
I wonder if the rumored Dr. Aphra project might be what they are looking to line her up for. The rumor was for a show, but who knows.

I'm more interested in hearing what this potential new Star Wars movie is about and when will it be released than I am in the gender of its director. I mean, yes, fine, it's great for women to be able to direct a movie that's part of a massive and popular franchise, but in the end, whether I see the movie or not is not contingent on whether the director is a man or woman.

I always said KK has her mind on entirely the wrong things. I mean she has not learned. And as for diversity.. I always believed that story comes before that, that the real fans no matter their race or gender would rather get lost in a well thought out universe than having their own race being personally represented. I don't remember any complaints that there not any hispanic or enough black hobbits.

Make a good movie. I don't care what is the rationale for picking the director.

I don't remember Kevin Feige at the ElCaptian theater talking about upcoming MCU films (including Age of Ulrtron and Civil War) a few years ago saying anything like this.. the people there, the crowds and the media, were excited by the story. KK. does not care about story, or character. She just wants her agenda to come to fruition.

Yeah, I'm sure I remember some predictions to that effect now and then.

Yet here she still is at the very top of an incredibly cut throat business.

    But she'll "never learn" apparently.

    Yup.

I'm willing to accept they may not match up to TESB, but that's not the point.

People declaring they are poor movies because of "forced diversity" seem to me to be betraying a great deal about their own fears and insecurities.

This will go as well as the ratings for Doctor Who since they woke cast Jodie Whitaker. It's dumb.

If a woman is the right choice, fine, but when you go out of your way to force one in, it's just stupidity. Kennedy cares more about being woke than making good movies, which is why her trilogy absolutely sucked.

And yes, forced diversity is a thing. Get woke, go broke.

If people don't like your product, then maybe they should focus on the product quality. Feloni is better than anyone they have.

A couple points, and I know this is probably pointless, but maybe I'll luck out and you'll actually listen this time.
The problem with the attitude you have is that that is one that basically just preserves the status quo of nothing but white men doing everything. Sometimes if you want things to change, you have set out with the goal of making that change happen.
As for the casts, I've heard a lot of stories about how excited people of color were when they finally see someone who looks like them as a hero in these kinds of movies, so diversity does mean a lot to the people who are actually effected by it.

Why do you automatically assume that having diversity in a project is antithetical to a good story?
