Vague hints at the possibility of "Firefly" revival, maybe wishful thinking...

I feel like The Expanse kind of took the slot that had been sitting there waiting for Firefly.

No! No need to reboot. Just make a new show in the same universe. They already killed off the best character anyways.

  4. i would watch anything from the "verse"... i often find that i miss it...

    doesnt disney own fox now?
Disney saved Star Wars..... maybe they can save Firefly too??

Disney now owns Firefly (and merchandising rights for anything released under that name), while NBC Universal owns the rights to Serenity (and merchandising rights for anything released under that name).

One thing that I would want is to see is a bigger variety of planetary environments. To be honest, it got rather tiresome that so many planets looked like the same area of California, even if it could be explained that that's simply how the big terraforming program made everything hundreds of years ago.

If they were going to do anything with new actors, I'd rather see them playing new characters.
All Fox owns now is Fox News, Fox Sports, and they own the Fox network, but don't actually produce anything for it. All of the movies and TV shows made by Fox now belong to Disney.

So technically there could be two different series going on at the same time that take place in the same universe?

Saved it from what? Being decent and fun?

  10. You dont like what happened to star wars after Disney entered?
For me the Rouge One, the last 3 movies of the saga, Solo and The Mandalorian(!) are equaly good as what was made before.
Of course, i have a special connection with star wars from 1980 and 83 as i saw them in theatre at the age of 13 and 16,
but what i mean with "save" is, that i dont think lucas would have developed this fabulous universe as good as disney did.

    This.
It was the actors that made it, not the universe for me.
I'd rather have a new show set in a new universe.

I have a special connection too, as I saw them in the theater as a kid, and most of the Disney films have been VERY hit and miss for me. As in, some are really good and others were about as good as the prequels.

Disney didn't save Star Wars. Star Wars didn't need saving. And arguably its overexposure has damaged it's uniqueness.

But, that's all very off topic...

  12. ^ no i understand what you are saying, and about the saga i can agree to a point,
the new movies wasn't necessary but i dont think it hurt.
The other movies and series that explore other stories in that universe i see as godsent and i'm very very happy to see great new sci fi in something old and familiar.

Not only will Firefly be back but it will come with a shared universe. Each character gets a show if their own and it leads into them all together again for a live action movie that introduces a young Mal Reynolds in flashbacks and and new kickass character who then get shows of their own. Also Spike shows up and we find out the Whedonverse is all connected leading to new interesting situations such as a Fray/Spike crossover mini-series were Jayne finds out vampires are for real.

Wouldn't that mean the ship's name would have to be changed?

I just checked and the new books and comics refer to Serenity by that name, and only have 20th Century Fox in the copyrights. I'm guess the ship and anything in the show, and anything under the Firefly title belong to Fox/Disney, and anything introduced in the movie or referring to it, or released under the Serentiy title belong to Universal. I know there have been times with Trek tie-ins where companies only had rights to one series, and were able to use things introduced in other series as long as they appeared in that series. During the early days of DS9, Malibu Comics just had the license for DS9, but they still had Bajorans, Cardassians, Ferengi and even did a Mirror Universe comic, and all of that stuff was introduced in other series before DS9.

I disagree. I think it did hurt and it certainly wasn't great new sci fi.

What the fuck? Am I living in a different universe than you? It's fine you like the movies, good for you. I'm glad. I think there was one good movie Rogue One, one decent retelling, The Force Awakens.

    But here is reality...
LUCAS STARTED THE FUCKING UNIVERSE! If it weren't for him you would have NOTHING!

Honestly we are doomed. I need a smoke.

I don't understand what's going on with the legalities at all. It made some amount of sense when the post-series and post-movie comics were being released under the "Serenity" title, but now they've switched to a different publisher who's not only calling them "Firefly," but released new editions of the older comics under the Firefly title, though the new comics seem to be set in the series era (I swear, that typo/retcon in "The Shepherd's Tale" that the TV show took place over four years instead of eight months is the gift that keeps on giving).

  19. zoom you are wrong, and i am right.... :) also Rouge One is great yes bigdaddy..and we ARE doomed...all of us... DOOMED!!

    No...?
But, it's neither here not there. I'm glad you liked them. Me... Rise of Skywalker broke my love of the franchise.
