Vague hints at the possibility of "Firefly" revival, maybe wishful thinking...

I searched to see if there was already a thread on this, and I couldn't find any. Within the last month, there have been some minor indications that executives at Fox may possibly be warming up to the idea of bringing the cult classic Firefly back to television in some form.

In an article on January 7, Fox's president of entertainment Michael Thorn and Firefly executive producer Tim Minear gave The Wrap some noncommittal statements about being open to the possibility of a revival, perhaps as a limited series of eight to ten episodes. Source: https://www.thewrap.com/fox-open-firefly-revival-limited-series-tim-minear/

What would you like to see in a new Firefly limited series? What possible areas of the 'verse could be explored, and made relevant and appealing for new audiences in the 2020s?

I won't believe it's happening until I'm actually watching the first episode.

Yes, as long as Jayne died on the way back to his kindly mother's home planet.

Minear's comments are also interesting in that it would be something unique and different, rather than a straight up continuation. I'd be totally down for Firefly: Picard.

Mal now lives on a farm with his pet dog, a German Shepherd named Book.

Firefly had its time. Like a good short story, that read as if there was more to it, it reached its end, and does not need to return.

...that's why Serenity should not have been produced; what did it really accomplish other than killing off two characters? I'm not sure there's more that needs to be explored. As for the idea of making it "relevant" for 2020's audience...well, social media is used to flame wars, so...

It will happen. It's just a matter of time. No brand name ever goes completely ignored, forever Makes me wonder what different things they could do. I kind of like the idea of them being part of a second browncoat resistance or to take a deeper look at a core world instead of the western landscapes we usually saw.

They should make a show based in the Firefly world and doesn't include a single character we have seen. Just to fuck with fans. :)

It does seem unlikely, but I recall it was this time 4 years ago I was watching the new episodes of the X-Files (season 10) and I remember thinking it would be great if they did the same with something like TNG, but it'd never happen. And now here we are with Picard.

(I know it's not TNG exactly, but you know what I mean. And I know Nathan Fillion isn't Patrick Stewart, but again just saying)

After this long, that is the only way I could see that happening short of doing a direct continuation with the roles recast.

firefly worked because of the actors, and frankly, because it was a short tight season that didn't get many chances to fuck it up.
they'll never get that moment back, and looking at it from a distance now. it's just not that interesting of a universe to go building in.

I'm sure at some point Firefly will be revived and run into the ground.

Just like TOS was revived in the 80s and run into the ground?

  16. i wouldn't mind this at all:) a motley crue scrambled together in a firefly-class transport ship during the first 3-4 episodes and then.... adventure!

We already have a Big Budget Firefly with GOTG and Farscape also filled the void nicely.

Anyone here ever watch the Firefly fan film by Loot Crate? I thought that did a pretty good job of recapturing the feel with all new characters.

I would do something completely different. I would do a 6-8 part miniseries taking place on the inner planets.

But that probably costs more than people want to spend. Does Fox own Firefly? Or does Disney who owns most of Fox own the series?

Either way I think it be too little too late.

I'd like to see Firefly again, but I'm not optimistic. And even if the studio does greenlight it, the original (surviving) actors have all moved on.
I'd be more interested in a total reboot. Of course, the problem with that is there is already an established world, and mythology..I just don't see it happening.
