So ignore the the "differences" and never mention them again. It's fiction not history. The idea of the future should keep up with the times

Not really. It’s perfectly possible to maintain continuity with an older imagined version. And the move is towards that, not away from it. Blade Runner 2049 did exactly the same thing, and did not suffer for it.

Exactly. There is not a dramatic retelling of history but an imagining based upon current knowledge.

Unless people are hoping that technology devolves for a bit.

Treks had that covered since the sixties. There’s a whole Dark Age for humanity around about now in Trek. Let’s not forget that twenty years ago we had the space shuttle doing its thing regularly and now we don’t. I have also previously raised the point that we don’t know what tech is underlying things that seem barely adavanced to now (like PADDs and even the computers) since the Trek versions may not depend on all the toxic limited resources we use now. It just requires a tiny stretch of imagination to work just fine.

Once I decided to regard Disco as existing in it's own pocket universe, my appreciation of it increased. Slightly.

I decided it was pretty much ignoring TOS and was a prequel to the movie era. Design wise that kind of works. TOS became what it was described as by Rodenberry/Kirk in the TMP novel.

Renegades you say? It’s a good thing there’s no ex-Borg or voya...ah.

I went with an 8. Really enjoyed that, and the development we are seeing of the story. Quite like that, whilst Starfleet clearly are antagonistic towards Picard, they aren’t actually aware that there are those within their ranks who are working with actual evil intentions. This feels totally different to a S31 tale.

Had to avoid this place for days before I could watch it!

The Mars UP security team went back to pistols, no more TNG-NEM type phasers? :(
What did Jurati do with her communicator during the conversation? Did she just get a notification and had to check it? XD
Most UP people got FC day off, that explains why a certain someone apparently survived!

Sorry, but after "Because it WASN'T STAR FLEET!!!" response on the Galactic News -- They did more than they had to by giving him an appointment in the first place.
I guess the Admiral expected him to come and apologize ;)

The thing is, it isn't his job to reverse Federation policy or decisions. Not in his role as a starship captain. I'm surprised his actions in either "The Pegasus" or Star Trek: Insurrection didn't get him drummed out of Starfleet.
He is to uphold the law and stop crimes committed by corrupt admirals.

Does that mean they hate all TOS movies including TMP. Also did they not notice that model itself changed within TOS.(the nacelles)
Which TOS movie happens during TOS? There was only the Cage/WNMHGB version of the nacelles and the main version, right?

Off Topic: Can someone explain to me why the hate on the Enterprise shown on Discovery. I liked it and miles better than the ugly abortion that was Abramprise. Still think TMP is the best.
Because it's inconsistent with 84 other episodes.

Anyone noticed the funny sign?

"This facility has gone 5843 days without an assimilation"

We see these signs in factories but normally it's about accidents.
That was one of the first pictures they released months ago

Didn’t you see all three already?

I was thinking that Commodore Oh was pretty sexy and no wonder-- she's Tamlyn Tomita!

Didja find your earbuds? :D
I did, thanks for asking. And I re-watched the first episode with them.

I would've given him a ticket on a small ship. But he's just a guest on it. Some Jellico style captain that takes no nonsense and keeps Picard in his lane to lead the mission.
Commodore Oh! :D

I didn't have even a little bit of a problem with that ass chewing she gave Picard. He gave up on Starfleet, then threw them under the bus, then came looking for a favor.
True but Starfleet deserved it.

Then again so did Picard.

Even though he was setup and the Admiral should have realised that.

I finally found some time to watch the second episode. Not as good as the first one, but still very good. Highlights for me included:
- Worf and LaForge are still alive and friends with Picard.
- Laris and Zhaban are great and convincing characters.
- The Federation has not become "eeeeeevil"; it had to make difficult choices in difficult times.

I don't care very much about the spy plot, but I really want to find out more about that Borg cube.

Whilst I hate large scale prominent retcons (like radically changing the appearance of the most iconic Trek ship) I'm super fine with retconning throwaway details such as dates, exact tech specs etc. For example the whole Eugenics War timeline doesn't work anyway, all things stated about it on screen simply cannot be true, so we might as well ignore the 1990s reference. Then all the other facts fit, the EW being the same as WWWIII, and Trek can still remain as 'our future.'

According to this preview (featuring Jeri Ryan's interview), Seven is supposed to be a member of a militia which I assume advocates for the liberation of freed Borg aboard the Borg cube turned Romulan secret lab, so by definition she's also a renegade ;);)

As hinted in next week's trailer, Hugh is currently working with the Romulan scientists aboard the Borg cube, presumably helping to provide security inside the Cube. But I'm sure he'll join the renegade team the moment he decides to help Picard to free Soji from the cube....

I think there is too much time spent on mysterious characters planning things that they don't directly talk about and not enough time on established characters like Picard. His character moments are flat because they don't give time for him to dwell on the bad news he received. It doesn't have any effect on him. Just moves onto the next scene. Unlike Generations, First Contact where he is clearly troubled.

In the next generaton we had Sela as the mysterious villain. Now we have this vulcan & romulan covert agents in starfleet and that guy on the Borg cube. It's too much.

Reflection of Picard in the clock. Could they have not done that with normal cameras? Too obvious an effect.

That clock reflection was done on purpose.
It was another representation of Picard getting old and him realizing it.

It's called 'setting up the scene' with Dramatic License.
:techman:

It would only be polite to get a Tuvok cameo in, and possibly a Kim, really.

I cannot understand what she is saying in one part - they are called the "??????? rangers"?
