Indeed. Which goes back to the original Romulan episode, "Balance of Terror," where the shocking twist is . . . the Romulans look just like Vulcans!

Oh man, I hope Picard doesn't have irumodic syndrome or anything and his loss of appetite and his dreams are just from his grief and guilt over Data.

Also this new Zhat Vash are interesting, do we think that the Commodore is a Vulcan working with them or an undercover Romulan? If they don't have ridges are there any anatomical or genetic differences between Vulcans and Romulans that could give her away?

I wonder if the Zhat Vash formed because the Romulans early in this history faced a synthetic uprising that was forgotten/suppressed?

...what if the Vulcans are those synthetics who drove the Romulans from their homeworld?

But Akaar wouldn't be saying what she said; Akaar would save the Romulans (especially since they were post-war allies).
Exactly. Akaar would go out of his way to help Picard in any way possible, just like he did in Available Light.

I've read some very vitriolic reviews over at Trekmovie. I really don't understand the fan base anymore. Too fast, too slow, not enough fan service, too much fan service. It's extremely depressing.

I think this is seminal Trek, and the best iteration of the current modus operandi we will see under Kurtzman. It's also clear that Picard will die at the end of the run and his last mission is to repay the debt he feels he owes to Data.

There are some very angry people in Trekdom, one wonders why they even bother if they've already made up their mind. I don't like The Orville but I don't pull it apart at every opportunity I get - I fully appreciate that it is horses for courses.

that group is fueled my people who make their money and social cred by hating everything that is Trek, wars, and who. It’s sad really. Stuff like YouTube can be a good thing but it can also bring out the worst in people too.
Best to just ignore the “kurtzman and cbs are the devil” crowd.

I have a question about the title of this episode...
"MAPS AND LEGENDS"

Obviously, the Legend part refers to Jean-Luc, but I'm unsure what the Maps part is a reference to?

I wonder if either the Romulans or the Vulcans are going to be revealed as being bio-androids and that is where the Zhat Vash's hatred for synthetic life comes from?

Was the Time of Awakening a synthetic uprising?

OK, so if the Romulan group even more secret than the Tal Shiar (WTF? A closed totalitarian society needs a hidden group from their controlled intelligence group?) wants to know where Dahj and Soji were created (so to destroy the place/creator/others, I assume), they treat each one differently.

Instead of sneaking up on Dahj when she was asleep or alone and immobilizing her and taking her away for questioning, they drive her to Picard and because Picard decide to just kill her.

Huh. So let's get to Soji. They know she's not activated. So Narek sleeps with her. She's asleep, in his quarters and again, nothing happens. Evidently Narek is supposed to sweet talk it out of her somehow.

So why did the Romulan kill Dahj on Earth instead of just beaming her to some confined brig on a cloaked ship? Dunno.

And as a woman, can we stop with the men fucking a woman to get information off of her? This is so overdone.

Other thoughts:

I think the Commodore is a Romulan; if not, she's a traitor.

Narek - will be conflicted and/or fall in love with Soji? Or will he be a snake all along?

The Federation is its usual moronic self. The Synths plotted and turned on them and they didn't have a clue. The Rommies have infiltrated them and they don't have a clue.

I still love Laris and Zhaban. I hope they don't kill one or both of them off. At the very least, with Picard running off to find Soji, I guess we won't see much of them going forward.

Was the medical issue for Picard necessary? Isn't being in his nineties enough?

It will be interesting to see why the Rommies (at least the Sooper Sekrud Spies TM) are so anti-androids/synths. Methinks they got burned in the past. I hope they didn't create the Borg accidentally way long ago as someone has speculated.

Raffi? Early days yet, but meh so far.

She took out two Romulan assassins.

Classic. He has a job to do but he's fallen madly in love with her and he can't quite bring himself to do the deed (Soji has saved herself -- for now, at least -- by being great in bed :p ).

They know.

Admitting it would prove to be embarrassing to a great many powerful people's careers.

The Synths plotted and turned on them and they didn't have a clue.
Well it looked like they were hacked to me, based on the eye flash before that synth started turning off the systems. The synths didn't seem smart enough to do any plotting on their own.

Was the medical issue for Picard necessary?
It's probably meant to be that condition that he had the in the 'future' during 'All Good Things'. It's even mentioned affecting the same part of the brain that Beverly mentioned in the episode.

I want exploration...dammit.

"Can anyone remember when we were explorers...?"

The Tal Shiar are protrayed as brutal thugs not Ninjas. The Obsidian Order was known for their subtlety. Smash and grab instill fear in the populace and old ways die hard.

That's actually the most effective form of interrogation. Be their friend and just listen. Eventually the target gets comfortable and accidentally said something they shouldn't . That's how they found Bin Laden.

So why did the Romulan kill Dahj on Earth instead of just beaming her to some confined brig on a cloaked ship? Dunno.

Romulans hate and fear synthetics. That's probably why they used the most brutal tactic available. I think the Commodore saids as much.

And as a woman, can we stop with the men fucking a woman to get information off of her? This is so overdone.

Uhm it does work in real life though you have to ask is Narek using Soji or is Soji using Narek.

I think the Commodore is a Romulan; if not, she's a traitor.

I think it implies that maybe Vulcans are in this conspiracy.

The Federation is its usual moronic self. The Synths plotted and turned on them and they didn't have a clue. The Rommies have infiltrated them and they don't have a clue.

Meh? I think it raises the stakes. The Romulans were willing to risk war and condemn 900 million of their fellow citizens to death to stop the adoption of Synth's.
