Some thoughts:

  • After many decades of badmirals, we got the return of the bad commodore!
  • Although I didn't like the way the scenes were cut, Stewart's scenes with David Paymer and Ann Magnuson were pretty awesome. I especially liked how Clancy dressed down Picard.
  • I feel like were aren't getting enough about the Borg reclamation project to make it worth our while to cut back and forth to it.
  • The Irish housekeeper/former Romulan agent is just awesome.
  • So the Tal Shiar had it's own Section 31? Surely Kurtzman knew this would not go over well.
  • It's been a decade since I traveled in Eastern France, but I am sure that Picard would probably make white wines.

Just to be clear, I do think the housekeepers are hiding something but that is a good thing as far as I am concerned.

Bet Laris ends up being a Romulan ninja, liking her and Zhaban more and more.

They're both ex-Tal-Shiar agents so I assume they have some ninja/martial arts skills, which I assume would come in handy next episode, since
a bunch of Romulan intruders - presumably sent by Narek - are seen invading Chateau Picard

It's sorta fun that Romulans might be carrying the torch of an ancient anti-AI movement, when DSC now suggests the Klingons similarly hold guard against time travel (and even name their capital planet after this!).

These are old and established cultures. They need serious hobbies. Humans... Are just kids. It will take some time for them to find an agenda to zealously hold onto.

Something had to happen to get Picard to leave, I still get the feeling they arent trying to kill him, more like herd him in a certain direction.

I was so happy that she was a commodore, too. Usually admirals in Trek are instantly given 3-star ranks. We hardly ever see the other flag ranks, and maybe only once before in the TNG era? I don't really like the new uniforms but I was so happy with that 1-star rank pip....odd, I know.

He had nothing to do with the Discoprise either
That we know of so far, they may end up being connected though.

Is it Burnham that accidentally or intentionally triggers the Supernova.

We just dont know.

The Romulans oppossing AI that much was my major point of critique after the premiere screening. However, I hope that it will make more sense in a few more episodes. Right now it just feels too fabricated with the only purpose of allowing a certain plot.

Waiting a few more episodes seems like a good idea in general. Let's wait until everything levels off a bit instead of praising the show to the skies or demonizing it. It's just too early for anything more than a snap shot of season 1.

I thought the Federations hobby/pet hate was Genetic Engineering.

So far we have:

Klingons - Time
Romulans - AI
Federation - Genetics
Ferengi - Clothes

No, it didn't quite seem natural. However, I suspect that we'll hear about Romulans having dealt with a similar "robot revolt" in their past.

The only people that are demonizing the show completely are the people on YouTube. I agree with them about nu-Star Wars and Current Doctor Who, but I refuse to judge Picard as "bad" until I personally feel it to be so. And I'm going to give it a fair shot. Right now the plot has me, so I will stick around at least 6 episodes. If I see things I don't like, I'll criticize them (like I did today). But I will forgive slow pace and setting up of the plot and things like that.

Something I haven't seen anybody mention is that they finally nailed down the dates onscreen. They were the expected dates, but there had been a lot of second-guessing on this.

So, Picard is fit to re-enter service but also got severely winded running up a flight of stairs?
That's what turbolifts are for.

Chateau Picard producing red wines goes back to TNG.

^ Did they state his age onscreen yet? Canon puts Picard as being born in 2305, which means he's 94 here if it's 2399. I've heard both "90" and "92" from people connected to the show.
