Spoilers Picard: COUNTDOWN! - Comic is available, spoiler discussion within

Yeah, maybe i got it wrong. But i always got the impression that the Founders were harsher against the Cardies than they would have been if it were another species who didn't tried to attack them.

Well, yes, that's why it's called retaliation. "Rise up against us and we will strike you down ruthlessly" -- it's a deterrent. Obviously they'd have no reason to retaliate against someone who didn't attack them.

It was always my assumption the Founders went full scorched-earth against Cardassia and killing nearly a Billion individuals was not just because there was an uprising by the Cardassian military

It's because a massive joint fleet was approching, which they knew would possibly win (espcially after the Cardassian military changed side) and wanted the win to cost and taste horrifically for the Starfleet-Klingon-Romulan Alliance, and by Ross' and Sisko's reaction, it certainly did for them.

Definitely, the Cardassians certainly betrayed the Dominion at an inconvenient time for the Dominion, and the Dominion's response to that betrayal was that much worse due to the timing.

If someone like the Breen or the Karemma or another of the Dominion's subject races had attacked the Dominion, especially in the middle of a pivotal battle that would end up deciding the outcome of the war, the Founders would almost certainly order immediate genocide of them as well.

Downloaded and read issue two earlier of this. I'm not sure what to make of it, it seems very short for three issues long. - both narratively and each issues length.

^ Yeah, the events of the second issue do seem to be pretty compressed and straightforward compared to the first issue's story -- no flashbacks to be seen, etc.

I assumed at first that a considerable amount of time had passed at the start of issue 2 since Picard wasn't in prison anymore (even like a couple of days) but later on you find out it's only been hours (since Picard mentions seeing the vineyard earlier in the day).

I’m back to reading Trek after a long absence mainly in the run up to Picard. Picked up the comics there on Kindle, probably paid a little over $5 for the two of them and still feel it’s a bit of a rip off to be honest! Talk about incredibly thin on any sort of substance or threads that are making the mouth water for STP itself. A big meh and give it a miss if you’re unsure.

Second issue seemed shorter than the first. Though I am enjoying the story.

Talk about incredibly thin on any sort of substance or threads that are making the mouth water for STP itself.

It looks to be the incident that finally drove Picard from Starfleet, and likely sets up the Romulan piece of the story.

Yes

The whole thing is rather disapointing. Looking forward to the "The Last Best Hope", which is about the same price, but promises to be far better value for money.

I can't believe people actually buy these things on a regular basis.

But what does actually happen in the issue?

What happens to the natives on the planet and do we learn more about them?

Is there something about the synths and their attack on Mars in the story?

And is there something about Picard leaving Starfleet and other stuff happening on Earth?

So are they setting up (given one of the show's writers is involved) that

Geordi died on mars or seriously injured? Otherwise why is he there?[/quote]

No to all of that.
I'm really surprised to hear that. I haven't read the any of it yet, since I'm waiting to see if Hoopla gets the collection, but from everything I'd heard, it sounded like they were leading up to the attack. I had assumed that was the whole point of the miniseries. Maybe Last Best Hope will deal with it.

Very disappointing ending. Subpar comic. Reinforces my decision to not buy or read comics. It’s nowhere near the quality of the novels.
I'm not really seeing how the ending was "disappointing," considering it was allowed to reveal precisely how
Laris and Zhaban end up with Picard during the events of the TV series, and to actually make it carry some meaningful weight in the process (with Zhaban's betrayal of Picard ultimately leading to his redemption and awakening).
And considering that very seldom are tie-ins like this permitted to set up much storywise as prequels to upcoming canonical productions (even the 2009 Countdown series has very little actual resonance with what takes place in the first J.J. Abrams movie outside of the Spock/Nero scenes), the fact that we've gotten this much in this series is rather significant.

Whereas this latest issue does indeed leave hanging
what specifically happens during the Romulan supernova that drives that final wedge between Picard and Musiker (per interviews with the cast, it's evidently due to a "bad decision" on Picard's part), nor Picard's final decision to quit Starfleet.
But these are likely going to be something explored (and possibly directly depicted) onscreen on the TV show itself, so the comic book not being allowed to go there is nothing unexpected, here.

I liked it. Cool ship, nice twists, and a big hint who's behind the Mars attack.

The Aquarius is no longer docked to the ship in part 3... did someone secretly leave the ship?
