How could Nia have descendants? I suppose she could father a surrogate.
I liked the episode. They sort of glossed over who that other Toy Man was. I assume just another standard Universe version.
I’m really enjoying the Lex story. I hope Supergirl doesn’t ruin it.

Googling tells me that even hormone reassignment causes sterility, so if you're going to freeze samples, you have to set that up years before the final surgery, but then the doctors give you a pamphlet explaining all your options well before you approach any red lines.

Cancer people freeze their stuff before chemo, so I don't know why this was so hard to figure out.

Kara and James ended due to the showrunners very likely getting cold feet about "their girl" really ending up with a black man, especially in the wake of some of this show's fans barking about not wanting to see that.

Day meeting his end would be acceptable for your reasons about some reporters risking their lives. I find him to be such a calculated (and generic) "romance" type from his first moment on the show, and his every scene is a reminder of any other scene not returning fast enough. He's a soap opera bore, and the character's "virtuous reporter" schtick is so forced that it makes the character a walking soapbox for the showrunners.

James was intimately involved with Lena, so one might assume they bonded in ways she did not with Kara. the entire "bestest friends EVAR" sub-plot with Lena was never realistic in any case, what with Lena being the picture of unethical behavior while Kara leans heavily on the Pollyanna side of life.

Its not about the relationship "defining" her, but more about anyone desiring that most natural of connections.

Supergirl dating attractive men doesn’t work. I prefer it when she likes the nerdy types. Like Brainy or the “proper” Jimmy Olsen.

    William is also black.

In The Time travellers Wife, Rachel McAdams demands to have children with her husband Eric Bana. He responds with a vasectomy, and she re-responds by banging a past younger unsnipped version of her husband that Time traveled upstream unaware of what pawn he was about to become.

Considering the world they live in, alien invasions and powercuts, Nia could take a Legion ship back far enough to collect fresh samples from her younger selves, if anything happened to the spunk she has on ice.

I have to think that, if the long-term objective is for Nia to have a child, then they've probably already had a sit-down or two with Maines and come up with a plan.

The first Dreamer is famous, and the 31st century Dream Girl is famous, and most of the dream girls between that were also famous.

If Brainy was the "daddy" co-parent using super science, or just a non-biological co-parent, that's first a paradox and second of historical relevance to the Dreamgirl legacy is disturbed, becuase future Dreamgirl just turned green.

Nia "can't" have the children or child she was destined to have, before the Legion screwed the timeline, until Brainy bogs off, which he has, and then hopefully she can still make her meet cute with whomever the other baby donor is supposed to be.

I'm guessing the lack of chemistry also was a factor. Honestly, I haven't heard anything of the above. I loathe when writers change character races just to prove how woke they are, but I didn't see that.

The worst part is that if you follow the comics, there's a character, Ron Troupe, that is black, worked with Clark, and his background is far more like the version of Jimmy on Supergirl than the actual character of Jimmy. Brooks' portrayal of Jimmy was very consistent with Troupe and it would only take very minor tweaks for that adjustment, rather than jumping through woke hoops for a chance to get fake outraged when people complain about the switch.

To my knowledge, at least Dey is an original character which means he's both disposable and someone that the writers can use in any way without worry of backlash regarding a classic character.

They may have missed the boat on that, especially with Brainy. I would have loved to see Kara with Brainy, but I think the casting is all wrong and there are just no romantic vibes between the two characters.

The writers just decided not to do that in this incarnation. Of course they can change their mind, but I don't think that will happen. At this point, it would feel forced.

A proper Jimmy with Kara would have worked, but they didn't make one. Winn had potential, but also--they didn't go that way.

Didn't evil Winn die in the explosion? I believe it was a virtual WInn we saw in the DEO archives at the end.

The charge that Kara/James was nixed because of the interracial aspect seems very un-CW-like.

That said, its termination was oddly abrupt, awkward, and unmotivated. Personally, I would have liked to see it continue.

It's true that, even to my sympathetic eye, Benoist and Brooks didn't have a wealth of chemistry. Still, it could hardly have been more flaccid than Kara/Mon-El was, or Kara/William promises to be.

(Personally, I've always thought that Kara/Oliver might have generated some heat, but I don't think that was ever even on anybody's radar, and it certainly won't be happening now.)

The best chemistry was between Kara and Lena, imo.

This brings up my belief that Olicity is the worst thing to ever happen to the franchise. So really, poor shipping is really a franchise problem and not just limited to SG. Even Barry and Iris is kind of dull. I mean it's "Yay, it's Barry and Iris." There haven't been any surprises since it turned out Eddie wasn't Eobard. It's been running on autopilot ever since, like the late years of a will they/won't they. The most amusing thing about it is the whole pseudo-incestual aspect.

As it stands, Avalance is the only ship with any amount of allure and spice.

I've always thought it's odd to worry about that when the parties involved have no genetic relationship. I mean, the reason for the incest taboo in most cultures is to avoid inbreeding, essentially. That's not an issue with adoptive or foster siblings. Arguably an adoptive relationship is the same kind of thing as a marital relationship anyway, two biologically unrelated people forming a legally defined familial bond. So I don't see it as making much difference to go from one to the other.

I find it interesting how similar Barry and Iris's situation is to Steve Austin and Jaime Sommers, The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman. Jaime was orphaned as a teen and raised as the foster daughter of Steve's parents (who ironically were far more frequently recurring characters on her show than his), yet they were childhood sweethearts who eventually fell in love as adults, nearly got married until Jaime was killed and brought back to life with amnesia, then eventually got married for real in the final reunion movie. Although I think Steve had already gone off to college or the military by the time Jaime was orphaned, so it's not quite the same as Barry and Iris.

If you approach it from that kind of purely "logical" standpoint, there would be no issue with incest between biologically related people either, in and of itself, since it's only through multiple generations of it that significant genetic issues arise.

Most people are still going to find it instinctively gross though, and likewise with incest between adoptive siblings. It's not like people recoil at incest because they're thinking, "Crap, don't want to risk inbreeding." It runs deeper than that.

Well, yeah, but that logically means the only way to prevent it from happening for multiple generations is to have a solid taboo against it ingrained in the culture on a continuing basis from generation to generation. After all, ensuring the birth of future generations is traditionally the whole point of marriage, so what would happen to those future generations is an entirely logical consideration.

Maybe, but when the adoption occurs is probably a factor. If you'd grown up with someone as your adoptive sibling since infancy, the thought of attraction to them would probably be creepy. But in the case of both Barry/Iris and Steve/Jaime, the childhood crush already existed (albeit only one way in Barry's case) before they became adoptive or foster siblings. In Jaime's case, again, I'm pretty sure it was after Steve had already moved away from home, so they never lived together. In Barry & Iris's case, it was at age 11, so that's less than half their childhood spent living in the same house -- and though Barry came to think of Joe as his father, he still had a bond to his biological father. So they wouldn't really have thought of each other as siblings first or exclusively. That's why the unusual circumstance of their shared parentage didn't make their relationships feel incestuous to them.

And if it looks that way to anyone else, who cares? There is no actual incest occurring in these cases, nothing illegal or non-consensual is going on, so nobody else has any damn business to judge it wrong just because it reminds them of something worse.

I totally agree with you and I'd add that this was from the first scene they shared together, even if Clark Kent was present too ...and it never contradicted itself afterwards, no matter that the situation is dramatic (like the scene where Kara reveals being Supergirl to Lena or the scene where both have a serious/emitional explanation in the ice cellar -> Benoist and McGrath give always their all and it shows on the screen, by the way!).
I miss the happy K/L moments from the previous seasons but in the same time, I enjoy very much the tension in their relationship since the beginning of this 5th season... even.if at this point 1) I'm afraid it won't do the characters any favors, especially Lena and 2) I think that it would be about time there’s a rapprochement (don't get me wrong, I don't say that they must throw into each other's arms telling the other that everything is forgotten but that they begin to start listening to each other openly and they try to understand their point of view -> until now, we have on one, Kara in tears, repeating to Lena how deeply sorry she was and that she had no intention to hurt hurt ever and on the other side, we have Lena, full of anger and resentment repeating to Kara that she ws deeply hurt by her betrayal of 3 years and how she won't trust her - and her Superfriends anymore).
Anyway, even if don't expect that their relationship be the same than before, I hope that they will manage to
forgive each other's actions and move forward with more sincerity, empathy and understanding.
