Spoilers What's the point of an android with...

Sentient synths that look like humans are probably the first step. If they succeed, they could create sentient life forms of all different shapes and sizes. We're most familiar with humanoids as sentient, even in the Trek universe, so that's where they're choosing to begin. Seems like a logical step.

Also, we'd be more comfortable with synths that have at least some of our limitations. The issues with racial dominance we've seen in popular culture (Khan, X-Men etc.) spring to mind.
Yeah and eventually they could go and just assimilate any biological aspect or technological aspect of any species they encounter into themselves...oh...wait...:cardie::whistle::lol:

Its interacting with humanoids. The shape makes sense.
That, plus... ummm... maybe to give them some sense enough of a human existence as to be sympathetic to us, in so much that they are hopefully less inclined to destroy us all.

Seemed to be the angle Soong himself was more preoccupied with, after a few missteps of his own. I suppose Maddox could've worked a little harder on that aspect, given the result.

We can make all kinds of machines, including artificially intelligent ones. The point of making ones that are as close to human as possible, like Soong's, is to hopefully have them understand what it's like to be us

Sex. That is it. Clearly it is just flesh over an advanced body. The question now is, apart from being programmed in multiple techniques, can they reproduce sexually?

It also creates a greater comfort for the people interacting with them. Otherwise the EMH would just be the computer.

Well, not entirely. There'd still have to be some mechanism by which medical treatment is administered, & since it happens in a humanoid environment, & most of the tools for which to do so are made for humanoids to use, it makes sense to have a humanoid EMH filling in for live medical practitioners.

That’s why everything is made.

Picard said something about her body being made out of flesh and blood, but it is definitely not really human. She made that really huge jump up the stairs. No human can do that.

If the android is interacting with humanoids, using humanoid tools and such the shape of an android follows logic.

I think it's just because that's what Data had wanted for himself, so Bruce Maddox (and possibly Data) created a daughter who was able to be what he spent his whole life trying to achieve.

The reason why any mad scientist does something. Because they can! If you have the knowledge then why have it unless your going to see just how far you can go with it!

Like Ian Malcolm once said, they were 'so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should'

Soong wasn't concerned with creating an android, he was concerned with creating a mind, and arguably, a life. The Data-style chassis was secondary and probably trivial for the Federation to manufacture. The biological synths appear to be even closer to a human mind than we saw Data to be in some ways.
