Spoilers Supergirl - Season 5

I wonder if the original evil Braniac is out there somewhere? We've had Brainiac 5 on the show for a while, but I don't remember them ever bringing up his original ancestor at all.

I think Brainy himself will take that road to some degree. Now that he's fully connected to the "Big Brain" he would be nearly unstoppable if he turned into a villain, and if a part of his new personality had some as yet unrevealed issue with say...Superman, that could be natural crossover material for the Superman/Lois show.

That bugged me too.
I'm just going on the assumption that the multiverse is there (I mean we literally just saw it) but for whatever reason Earth-Prime can't detect them; at least not the same way they used to.

Okay, it seems that the Prime heroes' ignorance of the other universes is part of the plan. Marc Guggenheim said on Twitter, "The Earth Prime heroes don’t know there’s still a multiverse. Shh. Don’t tell em."

I guess that since they're emulating Crisis on Infinite Earths, they want to emulate post-Crisis DC for a while as well, by having a world where travel between parallel universes is no longer a routine thing. But of course they can't erase the Multiverse that they made such a point of populating with other ongoing TV and film series and beloved older series, so rather than saying it's gone, they tell us it's back but keep the characters in the dark. Which is still pretty much in keeping with the comics, because they eventually revealed that the Multiverse still existed after all.

So are they going to keep the characters in the dark for a while and then do an Infinite Crisis crossover to bring the Multiverse back?

Ok... THAT seems a little silly . I guess it will be there way of keeping non Arrowverse shows away, but feels unnecessary. If they insist on going that way, I hope we at least get a proper Earth 3 as a crossover (after meeting the new Esrth 2).

I would have liked to have Earth 90's Flash's sacrifice have SOME lasting emotional effect outside of TV fans

Brainy did have a covering-line like "Unless they're on a different vibrational frequency we can't detect, there are no alternate universes," so they did set up an out pretty overtly (along with leaving the hanging thread of needed to find a place to put the bottled Earth). It did still come off as the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing, but I think that's unavoidable in the situation of wanting to clue in the audience and leave the characters in the dark (the only thing I can think of is if before the montage of the other Earths, they'd shown characters musing about whether the multiverse survived or they were alone, to make it clear we were finding out something that wasn't known in-universe).

"The Bottle Episode" was essentially interesting because of Jesse Rath's performance of 3 different Brainiac's personalities and Jon Cryer who is still as machiavelic as a good Lex Luthor as a bad one, And seeing the Luthor family working together despite their
distrust in each other, espeically Lex & Lena, will be the highlight of this 2nd half of 5th season. The rest was just meh, what for a post Crisis episode was quite strange. I would have expected a very upset Kara facing all these changes in a reset environment but instead, we had a Kara who tried to manage with a certain "coolness" the changes, like she had decided to wait and see what will happen in the future before acting.

Besides that,
- William Dey (after Andrea Rojas he was wary of,
spending his time/health to monitor in order to make her fall, it is Lex Luthor's turn but hey, I guess that the poor William will quickly discover that Lex is not Andrea when it comes to carrying out illegal operations without leaving too much trace and being dangerous!) & Kelly Olsen (I wonder why she was even in the scene so much her presence was unnecessary) seem as useless now as they were in the first of the season.
- Nia & Brainy : if I remember, it is their second break up... in 2 seasons. But well, we already know that before the end of the season, they will be back together.
- Lena Luthor: so, the deal made by Lex with the Monitor was to keep Lena safe during the Crisis AND that she keeps her memory intact. To better torture her psychologically... surely but I cannot totally reject the idea that there is still a little bit of affection and
admiration for what she has already done even if it failed at the end.
That being said, I'm surprised to learn that at the end, she prefers to work with her brother and mother than with Kara and her Superfriends BUT as Lilian said, at least there will be no disappointment or betrayal there.
However, I look forward to see Kara and Lena being friends again and how their friendship will be re-build after the betrayal and Lilian/Lex actions.

I'm glad he finally addressed it sort of, but most people don't read Guggenheim's quotes. This sort of reminds me of the "does the prime universe still exist" debate in Star Trek, where Abrams said one thing, but did another. It's not a perfect analogy because here, the AUDIENCE knows the answer, but the characters are saying the opposite.

It's kind of a problem here, and one that must be addressed. It would be better to say it's tougher to access the multiverse but yes, it's out there.

The bottom line is that if they don't want to use the multiverse, they can write stories that don't require it. It's not that big of a deal. But it IS a big deal where they say the opposite of what they showed.

Plus, let's face it--the multiverse was awesome and fans reacted positively to it.

For the record, as I remember it, in the comics, the multiverse WAS gone. Another small multiverse was then created, and eventually the original one came back.

ONE character should know it still exists, even if he keeps it a secret. It made zero sense that the Earth Prime characters don't know that things are ok throughout the multiverse. Things may have changed, and maybe other Earths were merged, but to say it doesn't exist is weak.

Also, where was the sympathy for the Earth in the bottle? That easily could have been THEM. There isn't a sun like star in the entire universe that could house that Earth?

On top of that, why would Lex set up shop in National City? Superman is his big enemy. I would think making himself the good guy to torture HIM would be more in character.

I don't think so because IF the characters know outright at the start that a Multiverse still exists; then they WOULD ALL be questioning of: "Why did Earth-38 and Earth-1 and Earth-BL ALL get merged onto ONE Earth? -- WTF Oliver!..." ;)

Plus it gives the writers more story opportunities to introduce/define this new multiverse, and weird things related to it (like this last Supergirl episode).

I was about to come in to this topic and ask about that. Thanks for the quote!

I think a big reason they might have the characters clueless about the multiverse from a real world perspective, is because the other universes are all home to non-Arrowverse shows that they won't be crossing over with. By having the characters unaware of them, then they have an easy excuse for why they aren't crossing over with them.
Have they said anything about Stargirl being involved in crossovers? It is airing on The CW, but it technically is a DC Universe show.

I don't know if that's necessary, though. I mean, presumably all those worlds were already available for breachers or people with extrapolators to visit if they wanted; they just never had a reason to go to those particular worlds, or if they did, it never happened onscreen. For all we know, the Council of Wells includes a member from the Lois & Clark world, or Gypsy once chased a criminal breacher to the Shazam/Isis world, but it's never come up in an episode.

Heck, according to Crisis, the recent Swamp Thing series was set on Earth-19, which is Gypsy and Breacher's homeworld. The Arrowverse Wiki is treating "Earth-19 (Prime)" as a separate world, but Earth-9 (Titans) and Earth-96 (Paragon Superman) are still the same worlds they were before, and presumably so is Earth-666, since all of Lucifer supposedly takes place post-Crisis.

Well, they said for quite a while that Black Lightning wouldn't cross over in the foreseeable future, and look where we are now. I'd say a crossover with Stargirl is probably inevitable if the show lasts long enough. And I have a hard time believing they'd choose to call it Earth-2 without some reason.

back in the very first Season of Supergirl (before it aired) the Producers were asked if we'd see a crossover/teamup between Supergirl and the Flash and we were told "No, won't happen..." -- yet just a few months later... :)

I think that one of the most remarkable things about the Arrowverse is just how often it's done things that fans would've liked to see but never, ever thought would actually happen. Crisis is the pinnacle of that, but I doubt it'll be the end of it.

Yes, because most of those cameos were stunt cameos/casting; none of those productions (including one primarily owned by another company) were actually a part of the CW-DC shows.

I saw Jesse’s posts on the creative decisions on the different incarnations of Brainiac. He is great to follow on Twitter and Instagram.

Same is true of David Harewood. He just replied to a question of mine on Twitter for the first time. He posted this photo for tomorrow’s episode. I asked if he was wearing a new suit. His reply was merely a wink. But obvious confirmation. I was the first to notice! In a recent interview he said he really wished we would see more of J’onn in his green Martian form but it’s a cost issue on CGI. So in Crisis he was given approval to wear the Martian suit without the CGI so his Martian self could be seen more than in the past. He said we will see the Red bars more. So this seems to be a more comfortable way of representing that in more scenes. When that was posted about a week ago I did ask why not just actual makeup, which has to be cheaper. No reply. So nice to get noticed this time.

I'm not sure whether makeup would be cheaper than CGI. It would take a lot more time to apply it to the actor and to touch it up on set, slowing down the filming process, and time and labor cost money. I've always assumed that's why they went to CGI for an effect that could just as well have been done with prosthetics.
