Amazing that fans have pretty much universally enjoyed this episode. Is this the most popular episode of Star Trek since... Trials and Tribble-ations?

Nice to see it can still unite fans occasionally.

I'd say its probably the most popular Star Trek episode since 'If Memory Serves'.

Id say its the most popular Trek episode since "The Inner Light" and "Darmok" (both are also Picard-focused).

Makes me wonder how popular "Tapestry" is.

I guess that explains Picard's new admantium-laced skeleton and ability to regenerate. I mean didn't Stewart reference Wolverine early on with regards to the new series, or was that someone else?

I am sure that the attack of the androids on Mars was orchestrated by section 31 so that the Romulans are destroyed, after all they only care to protect the federation and destroy the oldest enemy would be something they would do

And they built the first 'evil AI' storyplot in the Trek universe with Control, so I won't be surprised if S31 is behind the development of the synths, the Mars attack, and

whichever sick experiment the Romulan scientists are doing, which presumably includes (based on the trailers) the extraction of Borg technology and nanoprobles from liberated Borgs for possible use as new super weapons

People like these kinds of episodes in general. They are very hearwarming. One of my friend's favorite episode of The Magicians is Live in a Day, which is very much the same kind of story.

My thoughts exactly. S31 is prominently show as the main baddie in every post 2000 Trek movies/series, and there is a Georgiou-focused S31 series in development now.

Star Trek's first evil AI storyplot was written over 50 years ago. In fact there were arguably at least 7 of them written for TOS alone, You know, like 'The Apple', 'The Ultimate Computer', 'The Changeling'...

Which makes him close to being 94 years old if the series starts in spring 2399. I guess spring because how France looked like in the series. When I googled 92 years and Picard though I found tons of article about it in which Patrick Stewart stated that he was surprised that Picard was so old. Maybe someone didn't do the math correctly or they first wanted to set the show a year or two earlier.

He said at DST Birmingham last year that he only just found out that Picard was 12 years older than himself. I didn’t know as well but it makes sense considering the history of all he did before TNG.
