I hope not. Maybe the Romulans just made it look that way. I'd love a family reunion with Data and his daughters.
I think they've put way too much into the character's background to simply kill her off this quickly. And I don't think they'll miss the opportunity to have both of them interact with each other in a storyline later at some point in the series.
I don't think River is still alive, but her 'sister' knows she has(d) a twin, Dahj didn't. All very odd.
My interpretation is that Soji was already "activated" and had access to all her actual memories, whereas Dahj was just starting to gain access to all of hers after activation.
I think Dahj is definitely dead. I just think it was poor storytelling to introduce us to her, get us to like her, kill her off unceremoniously and then pivot to "But don't worry, kids, she has a SISTER!" They should have skipped the pointless twin business and just had there be only one character who never actually dies. Poor storytelling.
Probably true, but in a sci-fi or fantasy/comic genre it's pretty easy to pull anyone from death for dramatic/plot purposes.
Not poor at all, definitely surprised me, in a good way. This is par for the course today’s tv shows, no one is safe.
Sad, but true. Unfortunately, it's hardly ever for "dramatic" purposes and more just for cheap fan service.
If they pulled Dahj back from the dead I don't think it would qualify as fan service. She's not an established historical character within the franchise (yet).
I wasn't referring to Dahj specifically, but if they undid her death, it would be an extremely bad move.
Depends. If Soji isn't "awake" and doesn't know what she is, then I think this was a necessary sacrifice. We needed one of them awakened so Picard could figure out what they are. And let's not pretend that the character's sacrifice isn't going to have lasting ramifications in the story, as it has clearly impacted Picard. That said, while I'm pretty firmly in the "dead" camp at this point, I'm willing to concede that the "not dead" crowd has a point. There's no body, and it wouldn't be the first time that a transporter pulled someone out an explosive situation. Hell, a transporter might even simulate the disintegration we see. And I think keeping the twin in the back pocket for a dastardly reveal later is entirely plausible. I don't think it's necessary, and I don't currently see how it helps this story, but it can't definitely be ruled out either.
Picard himself survived the old “disintegrate and transport” in Gambit pt 1. Dahj and her sister aren’t unique - the attackers in Boston asked “where are the rest of you”, not “where is the other” They’ve clearly got knowledge and experience to know she could “activate” and to identify it too
Picard actually seemed to forget about Dahj entirely once he found out about Soji. Like, gee, thanks, are all androids interchangeable to you? It would just be crappy storytelling if Dahj was still alive at this point.
I mean, it's unfortunate that this kid I pulled out that burning building has died. Shame. I should become so tortured by grief that I don't go back in for the other one still screaming at the top of their lungs. One life has been lost. Another is still on the line. I don't think that's at all an inappropriate pivot of focus. You clearly do. Agree to disagree.
