Picard officially renewed for 2nd season

I hope not, it seems to hurt him.

Wil really took the haters to heart as a vulnerable teenage boy. He was a trekkie, and he got his break - he got to work on Trek. His first meeting with his hero (Shatner) went badly - although he recovered enough to work together on Big Bang. He also took the "alt.wesley.crusher.die.die.die" to heart, and I guess that hearing the same thing over and over again gets rather boring

That line of course came from "Datalore", an episode which may have a significant impact on one of the themes of Picard.

Last thing I want professional TV writers/producers doing is listening to fans. If I wanted fan based material, I would read fan fiction and watch fan films instead if paying CBS eleven dollars a month.

^^this

They need to make their own style. They will get viewers. Fans don't need to be pandered to, nor are fans obligated by default but that aside they are a ready-made customer base (for lack of appropriate term). Just understand the show and enough of its backstory, as pertinent to it being a sequel or what not. Some fans will stay, some new ones come in, etc. Chances are that the ratings and cultural zeitgeist of TOS and TNG aren't going to be repeated. Just do it well in the story department and pander to nobody.

Otherwise I'll buy the rights to a franchise and remake it using the cast of Barney and Friends and Emmanuelle
(which is just as obscene, albeit from the polar opposite end of the gamut legitimate, to pretend the franchise's backstory doesn't exist so they can scribble out any old faff and then blame the fans for pointing out significant omissions to the world in which the franchise exists.)

After all, what was that ill-fated movie... a long time ago... I believe that little offbeat flick was called "The Wrath of Khan". Nicholas Meyer wasn't a fan but took the time to watch all the episodes to get a feel of the franchise and characters, and then built on it with enough tact and deftness. But he goofed on Chekov's continuity, which nobody raised a stink about because everything else about that film was utterly magnificent at the time. It's Star Trek but properly updated and they didn't have to change Khan to do it.

Patrick Stewart said at the start when reporters were asking how long the series might run that he agreed to do 3 Seasons assuming CBS gave the go ahead; and he was still able.

I wouldn’t hold them to that, in that I think they may do more if they think it’s possible. Stewart certainly has faith that their story as about three seasons in it right now though, so we’ll see?!

Things have changed since then (seasons 2 and 3 are now being filmed back to back).

We could very well now get 4, 5, or even Trek's Golden Seven seasons.

Who knows?

So they shot S1 in 2019, they'll shoot S2 and S3 in 2020 back-to-back, then shoot S4 in 2021. That sounds doable.

They'll wrap in 2021, if this is what happens, and still have episodes they can air through 2023.

I believe Patrick said they had a 4 year story outline last year.

Four seasons would put Picard on a par with USA's Mr. Robot (which just ended its run after 45 episodes).

Please. No. Seven. And. Chakotay.

I'm pretty sure Stewart wasn't definitely stating it was 3 and done, either. I recall the quote being more along the lines of how they currently had at least 3 years worth of story to tell. It didn't seem to rule out more seasons.

That said, his age is clearly an issue, if they want to run this long. I appreciate that filming S2 and S3 back-to-back is being done mostly for budgetary reasons, but it's also a great way to get around that particular issue with Stewart, too.

He said they have material for three seasons. Doesn't mean the show will have three seasons. Material can be shortened, stretched, whichever.

Why is everyone always so hung up on Sir Patrick's age tho? The man is 79, not 100. He's still in great shape (he could probably wipe the floor with me), and while he has said that it's exhausting for him to shoot a television series, things aren't as they were with TNG where they were shooting 25 episodes in a row six days a week with 16 or more hour days - THAT one he could NOT do anymore, of course. But really, even if the schedule gets more demanding I'm sure everyone is more than willing to accomodate him (let him have his afternoon naps, etc) and make sure he's comfortable. It's for their own benefit - the more comfortable their lead actor is, the faster they get the scenes done.

MY prime focus when it comes to the whole "how many seasons" question would be "are they going to offer him enough incentives" - he recently said in an interview that he wants more challenges. THAT is what the prime question should be - whether the writers can deliver that one. This isn't TNG, again, where he had to go with what they gave him (and did the best he could with the material, I'm sure Rick Berman dreaded his 'yooo I don't think Jean-Luc would say or do this' phone calls after reciving a new script, haha) - he is an executive producer on this one, he's gonna have a big say in what happens and what does not happen.

They can listen to the fans, just don't do anything they say.

And "Impulse" is my least-favourite ENT episode ever. I get what they were going for, but holy shit the execution was beyond dreadful. I think at the time my reaction to the episode was "In space, for one hour, nothing happens."

I think as long as they accomodate his ideas, wishes and make allowances for his health, they´ll might just keep making STPIC (is there an offical shorthand yet?) as long he´s able to...

I loved that episode, as well as most 3rd season episodes. But Matalas (the new Picard showrunner) only got story credit for it, the script was written by someone else.

WAIT A SECOND.

I was thinking of the T'Pol mind rape episode from season 1 or 2, "Fusion".

"Impulse" was the zombie Vulcans. I fucking LOVED the zombie Vulcans!!

Disregard my prior post, no qualms about putting this guy in charge of Picard season 2.
