Picard officially renewed for 2nd season

Let the oversaturation commence!
Well again with your lead going to be 82 (if he's still around when the third season starts production); they're doing everything they can to hedge their bets and have everything ready if it all goes as they expect and STP is as popular as CBS hopes it will be.

82 is the new 60 ;)

Ahead of its Jan. 23 series debut, CBS All Access announced Sunday during its time at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour that it has officially renewed the Patrick Stewart-led drama for season two. Sources say the show has also received early orders to begin work on season three, which will likely be filmed back to back with the sophomore season, with the production hiatus not very brief between cycles.

Season 2 is slated to begin production this coming spring.

Hopefully, this is a good sign that the show is going beyond three seasons.

Seven seasons and a movie! The Movie will be called Star Trek: Generations 2

We've already got that in the show (the TNG era is handing off to Seven, Hugh, and the Sirena crew).

At this rate. Sir Patrick will be 82 come S7(?) . That's asking a lot of an old man.

Season 2 Showrunner announced. Wil Wheaton to host the aftershow:

The article also says that Patrick Stewart is hoping all of his TNG costars will eventually appear on the show.

I am not familiar with the new Showrunner Terry Matalas . He was Showrunner on 12 Monkeys which I haven't seen, and has story credit on 2 ENT episodes (Impulse, Stratagem).
