So with these rare figures, a loose figure is also rare and expensive - but I think that Picard will hardly have any loose figures since the release said that it was extremely limited - and only crazy people would have unpacked it

the statement that the figures are valuable in packaging always depends on the collector's focus - I personally collect the figures MOC (mint on card) and the card variants (Canada version) but my focus is accessory colors and I collect that loose and then leave it gradet (UK Grader)
recently a trifold borg was sold on ebay for 2000 eur - somebody spent 1995 eur for cardboard and 5 eur for the borg figure, because that's how much it is worth if the figure is loose
Hearing (or rather, reading) this makes me feel a LOT less weird about being a collector whose only focus is "is this a Jean-Luc Picard figure and if so, does it look like him"...

Same. I rarely buy in package any more since the pricing is for more than I am willing to spend for something that I fully intend to have out, play with or otherwise actually handle.
