Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

We get stuck with a ridiculous amount of movie trailers nearly an hour of them a few years ago when I went to see Star Wars Rogue one in a movie theater.:wtf::cardie::crazy: It shouldn't have to take that long just to see a movie.

One thing is killing my eyes. "Children of Mars" is lined between end of Nemesis and end of that century. We all know that okudagrams - LCARS were part of Federation from starship systems to school systems and interfaces. Well I noticed in trailer "Children of Mars" that there are no LCARS-i and sorry I can't forgive that. This looks like Discovery-TOSEnterprise era interface, and that is not possible and has no logic.

24th century United Federation of Planets has one trademark, and one trademark only. That trademark is LCARS.

Why did they do this? #disappointed

I get that holographic interfaces are cool and futuristic, but can they render a darker background that's easier on the eye?

A computer interface is a computer interface. They change over the years.
Also other than being on a transprent screen, I'm not seeing the resemblance with Discovery's computers screens in the UI.

Looks like they are civilians, probably not everyone in the Federation uses LCARS, and if it is after Nemesis, then a change may have occurred.

Well, it's said that in one hour of US broadcast television today, there are 18 minutes of ads (some anecdotes describe up to 25 minutes sometimes), with the commercial breaks lasting up to five minutes each. It can be quite disruptive when attempting to attentively watch a specific show.

Kor
Good. Breaking the narrative would be crazy.

Why is TV different?
I don't really see it as disruptive, since the stuff with the ads is specifically structured in order to account for the ads. I usually think of it like book, with each commercial break being the end of a chapter.
The pause button is awesome.
I use the pause button for stuff that doesn't have commercials, but if I'm trying to watch something within a specific amount of time, then that tends to stretch things out past the alotted time. With shows with ads it'll usually be a specific amount of time, and I don't have to worry about going past it.

So my final’ish thoughts on the attack on Mars seen in the various trailers.

The Romulans are attacking Mars by hijacking the planet’s own defences.

Reasoning:
In the prequel comic the Federation is building a rescue fleet at Mars, and some Romulans don’t believe it is an actual rescue fleet but an invasion fleet. A group of Romulans manage to hijack Picard’s flagship using its own computer.

In the trailers we see kite shaped ships with starfleet logos on them attacking Mars. So I think the Romulans hijacked those ships/drones the same way they hijacked Picard’s ship in the comic.

I'm cautiously pessimistic about this show. I just don't want it too suck. I have mixed vibes but no matter what I will give it a chance.

Not only that, but they are using DSC Shuttlecraft still, seen in the latest teaser. I'm guessing the producers are going to tell us nitpickers 'not to worry about it'. But I can't....you can't use another shuttle design from 170 years ago and think it should still be used in service.

I don’t see why not. As long as long as the shuttle is properly maintained. There’s nothing in the Star Trek lore saying this is impossible.

It’s also being used as a civilian transport, it might not even go into space. Old military hardware being repurposed isn’t unheard of.

Who knows what kind of post-space age materials are being used in these shuttles.

Also it’s only 140’ish years not 170.
