I'll give JJ credit for at least trying to undo the damage that TLJ did.

I thought that was the biggest flaw. Even regardless of quality, these three movies don’t really hang together as part of the same trilogy for me. It felt like TLJ was a reaction to TFA more than a continuation, and the same with TROS and TLJ.

I thought the prequels were much worse, but they at least fit together as their own thing.

I think the sequel’s saving grace was Rey. There were a few missteps - and I hated the Palpatine reveal - but I thought she had a really interesting character and enjoyed her drive and proactive nature throughout. I just wish they’d let her carry the trilogy a little more.

I actually liked Rise of Skywalker. I don't think it's a great film, but I had fun with it, so that's all that matters for me. I left the theatre feeling better about this one than The Last Jedi and loved all the little easter eggs here and there. There was absolutely no way that this movie could possibly satisfy everyone--that's simply not possible regardless of who directed it or who wrote the story--but I liked how it concluded the Skywalker Saga as well as the Sequel Trilogy. I guess it also helped that I went in without any spoilers, so there were quite a few welcome surprises for me.

So imagine my delight when I realized what Finn was actually trying to say! Our former stormtrooper is Force sensitive after all. Rey won't be the last Jedi for long. I really liked the relatively subtle way that they introduced it, first hinting at it with Finn's conversation with Janna about just feeling it and then finally confirming it after Rey's battle with Palpatine. I thought that was really well done, and nicely rounded back to TFA and Finn's use of the lightsaber before Rey took it up.
I just saw several articles about the tweet he made. Maybe we will get some deleted scenes in a few months that flesh it out a little better. I have heard they cut 30ish minutes and several subplots for time.

Just seen it and I really enjoyed it. A fast paced action fest that celebrates everything Star Wars is. This is a pure Star Wars movie that The Last Jedi simply wasn't. There numerous hints to explore past Lore and also what can follow after like Finn and the other exiled storm troopers being Force Sensitive beings (The future Jedi) and that's why they broke their programming.

All the piss ants who complained about Rey being too powerful, well we all know why. The power of Palpatine with the teachings of Skywalker indicates she's the perfect balance of Light & Dark for the New Jedi to thrive under.

When I walked out of the theatre the first thing I thought was "this movie could have been at least 30 minutes longer". It definitely feels like the plots could have been fleshed out a bit. I hope they give us a nice extended edition home release at some point.

That plot point went completely over my head until I saw your post. Thanks for clearing that up for me!

Back when TFA was released I thought both Finn and Poe would end up being Force sensitive as well, so Finn confirming he was made me giddy in the theater.

Its a problem when the main character is a mary sue instead of the under dog. Kylo should have been dominating and embarrassing Rey, not the other way round.
A tiresome, factless, emotionally stunted argument that has been repeated so often despite all contradictory evidence visible to even the simplest of minds that it can be dismissed quickly and with prejudice.

It does seem J.J was trying to put 1 & half movies into a single film. The biggest mistake Disney made was not having 1 guy or team craft the entire trilogy story point for point. J.J should of done all 3 and not the start and end because Rian spent his movie wasting time on a Casino planet.

How many fights did she lose

JJ created, Executive Produced and wrote 84 episodes it was also his first directing credit............Also, I believe most people NOW would know Russell from her 6 seasons on The Americans.
I was talking about The Americans, which JJ was not involved in.

I have to admit, as much as I enjoyed The Last Jedi, I think I would have preferred a middle movie directed by JJ Abrams. With the ways things ended up, there's a pretty jarring jump back and forth in tone and style from TFA to TLJ and then back to TROS. Either that or they should have found somebody else other than JJ Abrams again once they got rid of Colin Trevorrow.

When I saw Force Awakens back in 2015, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was not only great to see the original characters again, but, I was very intrigued by the idea of someone leaving the First Order and trying to find his way. I actually thought Finn was going to be the main focus of the trilogy. I don't recall any indication that it was a movie solely about Rey and her journey (of course I haven't seen it in ages and I could just be forgetting something massive from the movie).

And even as good as it was, I remember saying after it ended to a friend, "Yep. I absolutely loved it. I thought it was great! But, let's see what they do with the next one."

For all intents and purposes, Force Awakens was a re-calibration and reintroduction to the Star Wars universe. And in many ways, it was sort of unfair to the new cast, because I don't believe for a second every fan going into that movie was excited to see what these new characters bring. No, they were more excited that they were going to see Han, Chewie, Leia, and the Falcon again. And look, I was one of them, too.

What I ultimately am dissatisfied with is how this new trilogy invalidates just about everything that was done in the previous one. It wasn't something that occurred to me until Poe says to Lando, "How did you do this last time?" Sure, they destroyed the Death Star (twice), took down Palpatine, defeated Vader, and, for the most part, crushed the Galactic Empire -- though the fall of the Empire took a while. Out of that rose the First Order which is just the Empire with a different name, more modern-looking Star Destroyers with a glossy black interior (because black means evil; though I, myself, wear nothing BUT black ;) ) that still looks every bit like its predecessors. Starkiller base was just a much larger Death Star and then Palpatine turns out to have never died in the first place?

I loved it!

Do I have minor quibbles? Sure, but that's all they are: quibbles. This movie did everything it needed to do to bring this saga to a close. I'm going to need to see it again to properly rank it. TLJ is still my number one, but TRoS is definitely somewhere in the upper echelon.

So again Abrams felt the need to put another planet killing weapon in his movie? Actually serveral of them. Really? Geez. I predicted he would do that a year and a half ago and he did. Yuck
