Missed opportunities, TV-era guest stars coming to the movies

Considering how much DS9 got right with T&T, it was particularly disappointing to see how badly VOY misfired with that episode.

Par for the course for VOY, IMO.

The really dumb thing they did was taking an entire act to get to Sulu. DS9 had the sense to show us the Enterprise at the end of the teaser.

I still think Diana Muldaur's chemistry with Shatner (she played Lt. Cmdr. Anne Mulhall in Return to Tomorrow) was so perfect that she should've become a permanent/recurring member of the crew. Using her in place of Carol Marcus might've been a nice consolation prize, though, or just giving her one of the crew adjacent slots like they did for Rand.

It's possible they didn't think of Diana Muldaur until the later films, at which time she had already become part of TNG's cast. Trying to fit her into the films may have been problematical at that point, what with the way she left TNG. Bad enough GR was calling the last two films apocryphal, throwing in a cast member he had just fired? Maybe not a good idea.

I've always undrstood hat she had an understanding with Roddenberry that she could do other projects and wanted to do an L.A. Law project (she had a recurring role) and Berman was the issue. I'd also read that she wasn't happy on TNG and when they wouldn't give her time for the L.A. Law role she went and did it anyhow.

Mind you, you can't believe everything you read because I've also read that Roddenberry decided not to bring her back. However Roddenberry is famous for making up whatever suits him at the time.
