I am hearing from friends that all the prominent reviewers absolutely hated the movie, while all the sources I've read seem to be gushing about it. Not sure what's going on yet.

BTW seeing lots of "I will hate this movie no matter what because I am a real fan" type of posts all over the internet. That is so... weird.

Yeah, I really don't understand that.
If that's just because of The Last Jedi, then it's really stupid since this does not have any of the same writers or director, and it sounds like it takes things in a very different direction than TLJ. It'd make more sense to set your expectations by The Force Awakens.

I don't think you can identify as a real Star Wars fan if you like any of the sequels or something. It's really stupid and I hate when fandom starts doing this.

If you are real fan then you tend to like all, or at least most of the franchise. I've enjoyed all 8 movies Skywalker Saga and both A Star Wars Story movies so far to varying degrees, so I'd personally consider my of a "real fan" than people like that.

Exactly. Expecting people to like only certain facets or all facets of a franchise is the very definition of gatekeeping in fandom.

Dead on - it's doubtlessly gatekeeping. Assholes are saying that if you like Disney's movies you are destroying Lucas movies or something.

Ironic since I would imagine many of them were/are not prequel fans. Pretty sure George’s name was on those too.

My movies are still on my shelf.

I wonder if JJ Abrams or Kathleen Kennedy are going to break into my house and steal them?

I meant more of a hard core fan, not just someone who likes the movies.
All I meant was it just seems weird to me to call yourself a fan of a franchise, and then go on about how much you hate 1/3 of it.

Someone can be a hardcore prequel, OT or sequel fan. Or like Legends or the new canon. Or just like The Clone Wars, Rebels, Resistance or The Mandalorian. I’m not going to deny them their being a Star Wars fan.

Yeah, I realized that came across a lot harsher than I meant it.
I tend to think of as levels of fandom, people who like all of a franchise, people who like some of a franchise, and people who like just one or two specific parts of franchise, they are all fans, and more than welcome to be a part of the community. Obviously they are all real fans.

No worries. And that’s a fair assessment of it. Just not one I share. There are certain individuals I disagree vigorously with. But I try to respect the fact that at the end of the day we do love The Wars.

I guess not though. 57% on RT. Only Ep. 1 is worse, and we'll see where the rating goes from here.

I honestly feel like someone kicked my puppy... How could they allow THIS movie to end up terrible??

EDIT: 54% now. This movie will end up the worst Star Wars movie of all time...

I'm not gonna see this movie because TLJ killed any interest I have in these movies, but that movie got praised to high heaven by critics and slammed by fans.
