What are your favorite memories of anticipation for a new Trek movie?

Certainly, the anticipation of TMP was the greatest for me. I was a teen and already a huge Trek fan. I went to conventions, and we all talked breathlessly about who was and wasn't coming back. Something beautiful was being saved from the scrap heap.

And then I saw it and I was underwhelmed. While I will agree, to a limited extent, that the movie is not quite as bad as I thought it was then, even at 18 I knew that what I was seeing was not Kirk, not Spock, and not Star Trek. When V'ger...ahem, finished, near the end, I remember me and my friend Fred laughing.

Already back then people said it's not Trek, not Kirk, not Spock? I thought that's a new thing that started with ENT and JJA

Kirk was kinda odd with his impatient, snippy attitude in the beginning, but Bones addressed it and he lightened up when Spock arrived. Spock was very cold initially, as pointed out by Bones as well, due to his Kolinahr. Then his mind meld with V'Ger revealed to him that pure logic is not enough, and he slowly embraces feelings again. What did people find uncharacteristic at the end?
