The Last Jedi - Actually Widely Hated?

You people have so much free time that you can spend it to watch interminable rambling video discussing some random movie's minutiae?!? In my free time I prefer to watch the aforementioned movies.

And really, from when linking some random Youtube video should give more credibility to your points?!?

I remember some Twitter thingy from Rian, that he went to his library and took down a book of Jedi Powers that have been used, I guess in the Legends EU, or something, and pointed to Force Projection.. So he wasn't pulling something out of his ass when he did that..
There was no hawing about Rebels about World between Worlds, or the Emporor doing "Dark Arts" to get there.. They just expanded what it is, how it should be..

Shh... you're killing the narrative that they just make it all up with no regard for the lore.

JJ Abrams has admitted that he thinks some mistakes were made with the direction Rian Johnson took things in The Last Jedi.
He said "It's a bit of a meta approach to the story. I don't think people go to Star Wars to be told, "this doesn't matter"".
Good for him...???

I genuinely don't think even the most ardent supporter of TLJ would state there were no mistakes made...I think. I could be wrong. I certainly think mistakes were made. It wouldn't have been the way I would have done it.

But, it does get me even more curious to see what Abrams does with TROS.

The original New York Times article actually says a lot more. Really need to read the whole thing in context, but here's the complete relevant section:

Instead, Episode VIII, titled “The Last Jedi,” was written and directed by Rian Johnson (“Knives Out”). In its story, the “Force Awakens” heroes were separated from one another, confronting personal roadblocks on individual journeys, and the actors found it just as challenging to make. “The characters were very frustrated, and it felt that way,” [Oscar] Isaac said. “You felt the difficult energy of those scenes, figuring that stuff out.”

“The Last Jedi,” released in 2017, was also a success. But each time it addressed one of several cliffhangers left dangling from “The Force Awakens” — what would happen when Rey returned Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber to him? who were her parents? who was the nefarious Supreme Leader Snoke? — Johnson’s movie seemed to say: the answers to these questions aren’t as important as you think.

Abrams praised “The Last Jedi” for being “full of surprises and subversion and all sorts of bold choices.”

“On the other hand,” he added, “it’s a bit of a meta approach to the story. I don’t think that people go to ‘Star Wars’ to be told, ‘This doesn’t matter.’”

Even so, Abrams said “The Last Jedi” laid the groundwork for “The Rise of Skywalker” and “a story that I think needed a pendulum swing in one direction in order to swing in the other.”

And yes, I agree with @fireproof78, mistakes were made. No one is denying that.

He’s not actually criticizing TLJ, he’s acknowledging that it took an approach that some may not appreciate. He’s very clear that he does (and did) like Rian’s take and he should because he was involved during the entire story process. This is what I don’t understand when folks stake out claims that JJ wasn’t aware of what Rian was doing. The story group signed off on TLJ. JJ is part of that group.

People love to take things out of context to twist their meaning to what they want. Its frustrating. And that's exactly why I posted the whole part of the article.

I hate to doublepost, but I actually was curious about your video you shared. Why in a billion years would you think that anyone would want to watch over FIVE HOURS of negative commentary on a movie half that length? Seriously, people have lives. The video that @fireproof78 shared was ten minutes long. And I still didn't watch it!

Life is too short to be flooded with negativity.

The amount of hate one would have to have in their heart to willingly watch 5 hours of bitching about a 2 and a half hour movie is beyond my understanding.
