Is (guess who) a (insert something) Sue? (Spoilers)

Is Yoda a Baby Sue?

  • Yes

  • No

  • Of course not, there's a perfectly established canon precedent

  • Well, isn't this a turn around?

What has been shot down? My last post i just retold what happened Rey did all those things. I made up nothing
It's your interpretation of those events which have been repeatedly discussed. They have been shot down, but they keep coming back up. Doesn't make them correct.

In other words, just because you have silenced me doesn't mean you have changed my mind.
I think the difference being neither Anakin or Luke had to survive on their own from a young age. They simply didn’t have the same need Rey did.

Of course, it is a mileage may vary situation.
Mileage will definitely vary. However, I do think this is also a perception thing too.

I think Rey is far more of a survivalist than Anakin or Luke ever had to be. Her hardship occurred for longer and more off screen. Doesn't mean she didn't have a hard life.

Exactly. If the Force is all about acting on instincts, then why wouldn't someone who relied only on herself be as open to it as she was? She even tells Finn after escaping Kylo's torture room: "I can't explain it. And you wouldn't believe it." Is it a cheat? I suppose that depends greatly on your point of view. But for me, having someone who needs to be so in tune with themselves in order to survive is the absolute perfect embodiment of what a Force user should be.

I’m watching The Force Awakens right now. Anyone who says Rey flew the Falcon better than Han, simply hasn’t seen the movie.

I agree. But how they both treat the Falcon in that movie is pretty shitty. Rey slides it across sand. Han rams it into some trees. Its a wonder the thing still flies!

It's all in personal perception.

But, yeah, Rey doesn't out do Han by any stretch or definition of the word.

Certain points of view are going to get us in to trouble here ;)

Look, we have all the info we need when folks speak about ‘agendas’ rather than discussing the films or television shows. No sense in engaging with some who is arguing in bad faith. I’d say more but this isn’t the forum for such talk.

Here's something that occurred to me last week while re-watching The Last Jedi. Luke has cut himself off from the Force at the start of the film, and presumably remains cut off at least until Yoda's Force Ghost shows up. Anyway, what about that bit where he's pole-jumping around the island, and landing on very narrow ledge along the cliff. How is he doing that without the Force? No one seems to have brought this up in the two years since the movie's release. Yet, I'm sure if it were Rey doing this, even if she were using the Force to do so, we'd be inundated with "there goes Mary Sue pushing her agenda! There's no way she's powerful enough in the Force to do this. Why does Kathleen Kennedy hate men?"

Finished up The Force Awakens earlier. This movie has actually aged really well, and is a blast to watch.

Some thoughts...

*Rey didn't shoot down any TIE fighters, Finn did.
*She was a mess flying the Falcon.
*Maz Kanata was a fun character.
*I didn't think Rey's Force abilities were overdone. The only time she was a match for Kylo Ren was when he was both physically and mentally wounded. He had just killed his father, was shoot by Chewbacca, then Finn gets a hit in with a lightsaber. Person versus person, she is probably the better combatant. Due to her having to survive on Jakku all those years.
*I still think that originally, Rey was somehow related to the Skywalker's (possibly Ben's sister) and hidden on Jakku after the emergence of Snoke and Ben Solo's turning to the Dark Side.
*While Starkiller base was a direct rip-off of the Death Star, it was still a fun romp when the movie made it there.
*The only thing I think I would've changed, was to give us a hint of Rey's Force abilities before leaving Jakku. Perhaps an exchange with Unkar Plutt, where Rey subtly convinces him to give her more for her parts or something...

There's likely more that I forgot, but I think it is a great movie. Of course, others mileage may vary.

he also pulls a stick to him with telekinesis while fighting Rey .

I kind of think that cutting yourself off from the Force is something that.. you'd need the force to do! LOL

I'm going to rewatch The Last Jedi in the next day or two. It'll be interesting to see if it holds up as well as The Force Awakens.
