Spoilers The Walking Dead Season 10

No, it's self flagellation. I stop watching shows I don't like. I have better things to do than hate watch a series that ain't going nowhere for the foreseeable future. RPOW0614 needs a hobby.
Meh. I VERY rarely drop a series that I have started. It's a type of OCD called completionism.

I was of course being sarcastic when I called it "devotion." Though, this is certainly taking things to an extreme. I mean, I get hate-watching. I don't usually do it, though when I do, it's because I know the show is in its final season so my attitude is "I've been with it this long, might as well finish off." But contrary to reports of sagging ratings, there's every indication Walking Dead is still going strong, and indeed it's already green-lit for an eleventh season. So to hate-watch a show one knows will be on the air until at least 2021 and to keep watching the after show for each episode, damn. "Devotion."

I'm just tired in general of the idea that something must be watched, especially if that thing is something one hates. I don't care how its justified, subjecting yourself to something you don't like when nobody's holding a gun to your head is just stupid, especially if what you're talking about hating is something I'm still fond of. So I reiterate to RPO and crookeddy: TWD ain''t doing it for you no more? Stop fucking watching it. Pick up that little plastic thing with the buttons on it and press different numbers at nine o'clock on Sunday. Seriously. I hear Supergirl got moved to that time slot recently.

This always gets me worked up because i keep remembering the last two times I got convinced to power through something I hated. First, I'd only seen a couple of episodes of Firefly when it was first run on Fox, and i thought it was a stupid concept, but then there was the chorus of "Oh, you gotta watch all the episodes, in the order Joss Whedon intended, because Fox is mean!" So okay, when it's on SyFy, in the right order, I watched the whole season. Know what? Thirteen episodes in proper timeline order doesn't make the concept of Cowboys in Space speaking Chinese any less stupid. Then there was Batman v Superman, a movie I detested on first viewing in the theater. There went the chorus again: "Oh, no! You gotta watch the special edition when it comes out, cause they'll put in all the stuff they cut and the movie will be better and make more sense!" No, all the BvS special edition does is make a shitty movie longer.

Look, I don't know how old the others are, but I'm feelin' my own age, and I decided long ago that life is too short to fill mine with any amount of anything I have no use for, and i have no use for TV shows i don't want to watch...and anybody who goes out of his or her way just to watch a show he or she doesn't want to watch has no excuse for doing so. There's no such thing as "Failing Show OCD." You choose to watch it, you can choose not to.

You're in the huge minority here. I think everyone else on this board agree that this was the best season in a few years. Maybe since 5?
We are all allowed our own opinions.

I just find this season is being drawn out and the story lines have been weak.
Alpha and the Whisperers bore the shit out of me.

You think the show is lame, but you're still faithfully watching it and Talking Dead? That's devotion.
I don't think the show is lame or I would not have been watching it this long, just this episode.
I like the Talking Dead. I think it's a great companion piece to the show.

The only good moment was Saddiq turning into a walker and going after the baby. Other than that I thought it was a "by the numbers" episode. IMO

LOL
I have several hobbies but thank you for your suggestion .
I have never "hate watched" anything except for maybe the last season of Andromeda.
Good shows can have bad episodes and IMO this was a bad episode.

Fair enough. Sorry for going overboard.

There are so many "characters" on this board that whenever someone expresses a negative opinion we jump to conclusions.

well..i really like the seasons, and have been surprised with turns such as Dante.

Hoping, though, that Carol comes out of it, and we get a smart and strong character again

OG Walking Dead Fan here, been watching since Season 1 first aired.

I think Season 10 is the best season since Glenn got the broad side of Neegan's bat, but I am simply baffled by the fan response to the mid-season finale. It's overwhelmingly positive, and the host of the Talking Dead podcast even called it out as being one of the best episodes of all time.. Yet I believe it to be one of the worst episodes of season 10.

I'll start it off with the biggest positive of the episode.. Father Gabriel stabbing Dante to death was probably the coolest thing he has ever done, and overall Father Gabriel is one of the most improved characters since Angela Kang took over. Hope that trend continues.

Now for the bad..

First of all, how many times are we going to do the same tired "new guy shows up, somebody just betrayed us, do we stop trusting all new people?!?" trope? The show implies Michone allows the boat thief to go because of Rick's old quote "My Mercy prevails over my wrath", yet didn't Rick murder half of alexandria and take it over like dictator from the middle-east? I think it's pretty obvious this entire subplot was hamfisted into the episode to A: give judith something to do and B: set up Michone for the incoming Rick movies.

Second, how is it somebody who was betrayed and nearly murdered as many times as Daryl would simply take a Whisperer's word for something and walk straight into a trap, without any contingency? This is inexcusable naivety, and as the new "leader" of the group it seemed to be a very odd writing choice. Perhaps this is to make Rick look better leading up to his movies, but I doubt it.. I think it's just bad writing.

Third, and worst of all, the cave scene.. Wait, WHAT?! First, was Alpha's plan really to wait in a weird corner of the woods JUST IN CASE somebody from alexandria happened to see her out of the corner of their eye while walking in a totally different direction? That aside, is every person in that group a lemming? I can see Carol following her, it makes sense, but the rest of them just blindly run in after her? Why didn't any of them scream to warn the people behind them? Horrible writing aside, this cave was the most obvious set i've ever seen in the show.. it looked like something out of Star Trek TOS.

There's more stuff I can harp about, but I think those are my main sticking points. It's not the worst episode of all time by any stretch, but the praise it's getting.. Did you people watch a different show, or is the window for suspension of disbelief too narrow for me to fit through now? I thought most of the season was very good, but this mid-season finale was middling at the very best.

I wonder if some of those feelings about the midseason finale really were lingering over from the pentultimate episode, where Dante is revealed and Siddiq dies.. for me. THAT was a powerful episode... didn't erase the stupidity from the finale, but smoothed it over some for me

didn't Rick murder half of alexandria and take it over like dictator from the middle-east?
No. The only Alexandria citizen Rick actually killed was Pete the Porch Dick, and that was at the request of Deanna after Porch Dick killed her husband. Afterwards it's a combination of Deanna's depression and eventual death by Walker that leads to Rick taking charge there.
Second, how is it somebody who was betrayed and nearly murdered as many times as Daryl would simply take a Whisperer's word for something and walk straight into a trap, without any contingency?
That's not what happened at all. They weren't 100% certain Gamma could be trusted, and when the horde was revealed to not be where it was, Daryl's contingency was to begin a search for Lydia. Which they would have done, if it weren't for Carol suddenly running off after Alpha.

No, Alpha was likely caught by surprise too, then she improvised and led the team in the direction of the cave.
That aside, is every person in that group a lemming? I can see Carol following her, it makes sense, but the rest of them just blindly run in after her? Why didn't any of them scream to warn the people behind them?
Except the entire team wasn't chasing Alpha, only Carol was. The others were trying to catch up to Carol and stop her before she escalated the situation irreparably.

Umm, okay?
Did you people watch a different show,
I think so, yeah.

This 100%. The penultimate episode was probably my favorite of the entire season, and you are probably right.. I think I'm actually giving the mid-season finale more credit than I normally would, just because of how good the episode before it was.

I just don't get how anybody can argue this was one of the best episodes of the season, little own the entire series. This must be some Universe A vs. Universe B stuff, i'm at a total loss.

That isn't a common argument. The show is rated lower on IMDB and was watched by fewer people than the 3 before it.

Okay, so what conclusion should I jump to about the way you keep reporting ratings drops with masturbatory glee?
You should take a deep introspective and realize that you attribute intent to facts. I report increases the same way I report decreases.

I'm actually impressed by the ratings the show has been able to hold on to.. I mean, just think about it.

In the course of about a season, the show lost Rick, Carl and Maggie. That's the main character of the show, the main character of the comic, and a huge fan favorite who's been a major character since season 2. This is not a small loss, and for most shows it would have led to cancellation almost immediately.

Are the current ratings good compared to season 5? Of course not, the show was still in the twilight of its prime and was as popular a watercooler subject as Game of Thrones circa 2017. That being said, its ratings still beats the vast majority of other shows currently airing on traditional television.

I do believe it's still the most watched scripted show on cable.

Why are you reporting on the ratings at all? Is it that hard to give an opinion about the episode itself and not just spout the Nielsens? Or are you following the adage of not saying anything at all when you have nothing nice to say?

Sorry if I offended your favorite show which has fallen from 17 million viewers to 3 million in just 3 years. You can go crawl under your rock where this is not news worth discussing, but the adults here know that this is very meaningful.
