Seven is supposed to be in three episodes.

They've said the first season of PIC is supposed to be like a 10-hour movie. I think it doesn't make sense to kill Dahj off in the first act (which would translate, in film terms, to the first 2-4 episodes). The way the Romulans want her so badly and the way Picard seems so obsessed with saving her, I think her death would dispirit Picard even further. To the point where he wouldn't even bother to command the La Sirena. And the Romulans would have no one to chase after.

To put it in Alien terms: I feel like Picard is like Ripley and Dahj is like Newt. Well, actually, I think Dahj is more like Cali but Picard's treating her like Newt.

Seven is also (1) half-human and (2) efficient. It makes no sense whatsoever to deploy a rifle that she can't carry into battle.
