NBA 2019-2020 "Parity" Bites

I put parity in quotes because it means simply that the league has returned to where it was before KD went to the Dubs. There are 7 or so teams with legit title aspirations. Out west, Denver, LAL, LAC, Houston, are favs, while Golden State, Porty, Utah, have shots. In the east it's Milwaukee, Philly, with Boston and Miami with an outside chance. But really, anything could happen.

Lakers opened their preseason in Dubs brand new state of the art, Chase Center, with a resounding beating. Full disclosure, Dubs were without their two best big men (and Klay), so AD and Bron romped in the first half. AD looked REALLY good. Dwight Howard looked rusty but still looks like he will eventually rebound in double figures or close to it, most games.

Just preseason, but I'm as stoked as one can be at this point in the season.

I’m excited about finally a season without an obvious overwhelming favorite.

I might root for the Clips (Assuming the Celts aren’t miraculously great) out of appreciation for Kawhi A. Beating the Warriors and then B. Sabotaging the Lakers.

Looks like players are going to start getting reprimanded for tweets that stand up for human rights in China.

New plan, if any team stands up to Chinese censors, I will support that team. Even *sigh* if it’s the Lakers.

 The Celtics should be so "sabotaged." Also, forgot about Brooklyn maybe making some noise in the east even without KD.

I mean, he led the Lakers on so they could not pursue a third big name free agent. So they're a championship contender rather than a championship lock.

Lebron declined to take a stand on free speech, so fortunately I won't be forced to root for the Lakers this year. Looks like his principles only apply to issues that won’t lose him shoe contracts. And people who support democratic protestors over international contracts are “Uneducated”.

Carsen Edwards goes 9-15 from the 3 point line at a preseason game. I know it's just a preseason game, but damn. We'll see how that progresses.

 What are you talking about? Kawhi was the third star the Lakers pursued. Besides, we already had AD so acquiring another big name free agent wasn't imperative for us the way it was for other teams. In fact, for the Lakers, getting a third star was a luxury.

Come on now, you know all the free agents that would be better compliments to Lebron and AD were off the market by the time Leonard made his decision. Every analyst says so every time they talk about it. Had they no expected Leonard, they’d have a stronger supporting cast.

Anyway, go Clips.

Celts are giving away their shot at this game by missed free throws.

Here is what you wrote and what i was responding to:

And as I previously wrote, the Lakers don't need a third "big name" free agent.

Kawhi wasn't leading the Lakers on. He would have signed with the Lakers if the Clips had not been able to sign or trade for another star player. Kawhi made it clear to the Clips that he would not sign with them without PG.

Yes, I know you get most of your opinions from "analysts", but let me assure you that they don't know it all.

The Lakers were still able to sign a nice group of players after the Kawhi announcement. Name me one player that doesn't fit? Just think back to what the analysts told you.

Go Philly all the teams in the east who will beat the Celts. Good thing you guys are in the east, you'd never make the playoffs in the west. Wow, Jaylen Brown, earning that $115 mil, huh?

Great to see Kemba turn on in the 4th quarter. Also you see him in the bench full of energy constantly motivating his team, exact opposite of Kyrie.

I just learned that Jaylen Brown’s contract has an $8 million incentive if he wins MVP or gets named first team NBA. So, it’s really a $107M contract, not a $115M one. :)

Fuck, Hayward broke another bone. His left hand this time, so not a season ender, but still RIGHT after he started playing like his old self.

Dude needs more calcium!

Anyone with experience in fantasy leagues who can give advice about managing injured players?

I am in one of the free head to head leagues on ESPN. I got a few HUGE steals, Gordon Hayward in the 7th round and Malcolm Brogdon in the 9th.

Also I have Kyle Lowry, and he and Hayward were fantastic until they both broke their fingers. If they end up out for months and not weeks, at what point do I switch them out, strategically speaking?

Week 2 I got massive points by switching in whatever players of the bench had games that day, effectively adding three extra players. Having two players on the bench eliminates that strategy, but when they cone back they’re unquestionably better than the players I could get instead.

Tough call, whether to sacrifice points for possibly six to eight weeks to keep them later.

Celts blow a 10 point lead on the road vs full strength Clips...

...With a little help from the refs.

Going to bed now, hopefully wake up to Celts victory.

That was actually a pretty gutsy performance by the Celts on the road against the "presumed" future NBA champs , at least according to ESPN, and all without one of their best players.

This is not a performance the Clips should be proud of. I'm sure their fans are saying that it's early and PG and Kawhi need to learn to play together, and no doubt there is some truth to this, but it took AD and LeBron all of one quarter in the preseason to show chemistry. I believe same could be said about Bos with Kemba and Kanter(?). Clips fans will also say that PG is rusty and that's maybe true, but he scored 37 in his season debut one game ago and everyone said 'yes, he's rusty, but look how great he is'.

Not saying Clips won't eventually get to the Finals and maybe win the championship, but just maybe the "experts", as usual, don't know the whole story.

Tatum crossing over PG was just icing on the cake for me.

Oh God, I just want the Raptors to lose. So smug replaying “The Shot”. Yeah, it truly shows you are champion team when the whole championship hangs on one of your near-misses that luckily came in, especially after the guy who made the shot left for the Clippers. I'm disappointed the NBA finals are the only place they could face a direct elimination by the Clippers, otherwise I would have wished Lenard would score such shot against them.

Other teams should do their best to get rid of Drake early.

Indeed. The NBA would not be the international juggernaut it is today without him. RIP.

I think he was the best commissioner in my lifetime (Born in 1984). He really helped the NBA grow in popularity, with the help of Jordan, Bird, Magic, and several others.
