Rian Johnson trilogy canceled

first i know you can't read.. because I recognized that the things I listed all did have context, and implied that to be offended by any one of them would be missing the point and being over sensitive.

But.. it's the combination.. it's how people perceive the whole of what is happening.

You did not respond to that at all
What people? You seem mostly concerned with how things look to misogynists, bigots, racists, and other awful people. They don’t represent Star Wars fans or anyone who needs to be listened to. We’re better off as a species if they aren’t happy and disappear into the depths of history as something we grew out of.

Star Wars is about the story, the spectacle, the thrill and the escape. If you want to hire a diverse cast into these movies fine. But when you hire a diverse cast and it the fact that it's diverse BECOMES what these movies are about, even over story, the spectacle, the thrill and the escape, that is where my problem lies. I don't bring politics into these movies.

Look at terminator Dark Fate, Charlies Angels and a host of other films that tried to act on pleasing demographics and SJW's and you see the failure. And even though SW has had financial success.. the fan base is split, because it seems that they put these social issues and identity politics first, or at least made them as important as anything else.

I don't see politics in the SW movies, beyond what has been there since its inception.

Well, to be fair, the casino scene is by far the most overtly political scene in Star Wars so far... It also adds shades of grey to a universe where shades of grey probably aren't needed.

Still loved TLJ. :)

Gotta agree with the two chaps above. Star Wars is still about escape. It’s still a story of heroes and villains and aliens from a thousand worlds. It’s still the story of space wizards and laser swords and a mystical force that controls everything. There has been one overt political message in the movies and yeah, like @crookeddy suggested, maybe it didn’t need to be there. BUT it is.

As I think has been suggested dozens of times, you can choose to ignore the things you don’t like. I have a friend who hates the prequels so much that anytime we had a Star Wars discussion and they came up? He walked out of the room. It was silly, and he admitted it, particularly post TLJ where they brought up Darth Sidious.

These movies are still escape. And there is such a thing as taking it all too seriously.

Terminator Dark Fate and Charlie's Angels failed because general audiences weren't interested.

Period.

What the actual fuck? :wtf:

Not once has any one in the movies made any mention of diversity. Finn is just a Stormtrooper, Rey is simply an orphan (or not) with the Force, Rose Tico is simply a technician.

The only folks that have made these movies about diversity are the folks that can't stand that white males are no longer the end all be all of the universe. The movies have simply increased the diversity of characters, to help Star Wars actually reflect the real world where it is made.

they failed because they were targeted to identity politics and diversity.. just look at the first publicity still from Terminator Dark Fate.. or how how the director of CA is blaming men..

don't be naive

I mean after the Terminator photo was released the next bit of "marketing" we saw from the movie was director saying that the main female character was a special woman "we don't trade one gender trait for another" and that she will scare the fuck out of misogynists.

I don't even remember hearing that word in 1991 when T2 came out. I just went to see a good movieand that's what I got.

Solo also made less money than expected because of a lack of interest from general audiences, BTW, not because of perceived backlash from "fans".

Absolutely. Its not forced. It just is. Star Wars has always had a lived-in look. Its added to the realism. Having these characters who aren't all white adds to that tapestry of realism.

This is probably true, but we have no way of knowing for sure. The box office of ROS will tell us something.

Precisely so. Nothing is forced, so its hard to say "They have an agenda" when apparently the agenda amounts to "have more diversity and never talk about it."

At this point its grasping at straws to be offended.

I'll also say, my not going to go see Dark Fate or Charlie's Angels had a lot less to do with any identity politics to first, just not caring about either, and second, the fact that I am three weeks from completing my masters degree and have a seven month old. Gotta be picky about the movies I go see. So, sure, blame me for their box office failures. But not for the reasons suggested.

I'm right there with you. I see maybe one movie at the theater a year, so I can join that club.

And having completed my Master's almost two years ago, while having two kids and a sick wife, I say COGRATULATIONS!

To me, this ranting against diversity is all projection. Imagining a problem that doesn't actually exist and now is ruining the cinema experience.
None of this would be happening if social media wasn't built around keeping people angry all the time. The internet has polluted people's minds and destroyed people's to actually talk about issue's giving way to hot takes, putdowns, memes and conspiracy theories. Jason
