"No source material?" LOL, wut? The ST has the previous six Episodes. Rogue One and Solo are based in large part on parameters set by the OT. And not only is there decades of old EU stuff to draw from (including, yes, comic books and multi-hundred-page novels), there's new books, comics, games, TV and more being churned out all the time... so if her point is that Lucasfilm doesn't have a wealth of ideas to draw inspiration from the way the MCU does, and the top-level deciders are having to build every from scratch by themselves, then... "OK, Boomer?"

What's amazing about this post is that you've cited a slew of examples that don't constitute preexisting stories of the sequel trilogy films and none that do, yet somehow you think that you've uncovered a contradiction in what she's saying. Congratulations?Speaking of that Kennedy interview...

I for one am glad she's not adapting any of the EU stories for the ST.
But those are all taken from the movies, not the other way around. They are not basing any of the movies on preexisting material, the way things like the MCU are based on preexisting comics.Speaking of that Kennedy interview...

Yeah, she's obviously referring to a lack of pre-existing sources for adaptation, not a lack of pre-existing tie-in media. Star Wars is an original movie series not directly* based on anything but the contents of George Lucas's brain.
Look at the other comparable franchises of the last few decades: Marvel, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc. etc. The vast majority of them based of pre-existing materials; typically literature or graphic novels.
But hey, if people want to be deliberately obtuse about it, it's not like things like "logic", "facts" or the patently obvious are even going to slow them down on their merry little way.
(*Indirectly of course, it's inspired by a gestalt of Flash Gordon, Kurosawa films and a myriad of other influences, but that's not the same thing.)

Yes she is clearly referring to lack of sequel materials when the OT characters ar at the ages they are. I understand that.
Just like her Force is Female photo was for a Nike event.
But man... she HAS to be smarter. Because what she does and what she says is representative of the company that she runs.
Because if people SEE the Force is Female shirt, they SEE the rainbow colored SW T shirt, they watch any of fifty interviews where she wants to talk about is female representation in SW behind the scenes, and then those same casual fans see the unbalanced female mary sues, female stormtroopers (both a commander and a regular trooper), combined with all her rhetoric and combined with her dismissal of the value of adapted work (adapting a novel is actual harder than starting with a blank slate).. maybe not one element is enough to say she is a terrible leader.. but all the things combined really leave a bad impression

Perception is reality.. it's all about how your audience, clients or whoever else of concern perceives you.
