"You will never have a deeper sleep than curled up in a wookie's lap"

The Maul revelation was still the best part of the movie. Given the behind the scenes problems in the making of the movie, it's legitimately unfortunate that these one-offs aren't going to continue.
It looks like the Disney+ series are pretty much taking the place of the A Star Wars Story movies. The Obi-Wan series was actually going to be a movie originally, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see more of the characters that were rumored to be getting standalone movies end up getting Disney+ series instead.

Yes it wouldn't surprise me to see some of the threads from solo maybe showing up in a Disney + series. It makes sense, at least for us fans of the movie.

I almost wonder if that was always the plan, just based on the casting. Qi'ra and Lando had the most spin-off potential, and they were played by actors most known for television work.

I'm sure the plan was if solo did well (and I was convinced it would do a better than it did, say 700m+) there would have been a sequel with jabba, boba etc, but it's an interesting observation nonetheless.

Solo is my second-favorite of the four most recent films. It has its flaws and there are parts that are fitfully entertaining but on balance it's a pretty great Star Wars film, an even more impressive thing to say given that the movie had a near-disastrous production history until Ron Howard was picked to clean up the mess and try to salvage the film.

He did.

I like the movie, and I'm disappointed that there aren't any cinematic follow-ups in the running now. I especially liked that we now have a canon explanation for the "less than twelve parsecs" business. So that means people can stop arguing about it, right?

I was hoping for an Obi-wan movie. I've been hoping for that since the PT days. Hopefully the series actually happens.

Plus: Qi'ra.

I mean. Come on. No wonder Han was so reluctant to express his feelings for and dive into a relationship with Leia. He'd been seriously hurt in the past and had to once again trust and allow himself to fall in love. Qi'ra was somebody very special to him and losing her to Crimson Dawn was tough.
