The Last Jedi - Actually Widely Hated?

It's an unpopular opinion, I know. But for me, the franchise has rarely had worse dialogue or worse acting than the first film. It's just wooden from start to finish. TPM was more fun (at least that had Liam Neeson and some really cool lightsaber fights).

Hey, it’s an absolutely fair criticism. Not everyone is going to agree about everything always.

I personally love hearing this opinion. Having grown up with Star Wars and hearing all the love having this critical point of view is a little refershing.

I agree. I don't necessarily agree with @Grendelsbayne 's opinion, but at least it was presented intelligently, critically, not condescendingly and in sentences with punctuation. Definitely refreshing. Particularly in this thread. :)

I would argue the set pieces in that movie are a LOT of fun. Qui Gon and Obi Wan on the ship through probably the underwater sequence, the podrace sequence, and the final fight between the Jedi and Maul are VERY well done. For me, it's the material that links the set pieces that fails, Lucas failed to make me care about why those set pieces were happening.

I can see “wooden” when comparing A New Hope to Empire..., Kerschner got a lot more nuanced performances out of his actors vs. Lucas.

Except for Peter Cushing, who was the first person that sprung to my mind as an argument against "wooden." But, Cushing is a consummate actor so that should come as no surprise either.

Well... yes. What I meant was that I disagree ANH was "terrible." Perhaps its nostalgia but I love that movie, warts and all (and it does have warts).

you have to wonder why they never released an actual line of new 3 and a half inch figure line for TROS...

or why some of the merch is already on clearance before the movie even drops...

I've found The Phantom Menace going way up in my estimation in the last few years. I think it's a pretty solid SW film, Jar Jar Binks aside. It's a lot of fun and has some great set pieces, and a brilliant score. I think the FX have aged better than ATOC too, which I think was trying to bite off more than it could chew visually, but was at least ambitious.

If you look at it as a film, it’s actually probably the best of the prequels. AOTC is fairly awkward with storylines that are set up and go nowhere. ROTS is just a lot of box checking. TPM tells a good story that makes sense, albeit a little awkward in the dialogue.

No, I don't. Those lines were consider less quality and the Vintage Collection was considered more desirable.

One store, eh? Except for the 5 Wal-Marts in my area who are selling them at full price.

Thank you for playing

Wow. I feel so beaten. One store selling at clearance. I shall never question your assertions again. [/sarcasm]

First, you stole that from a World Class Bullshitters video. So, your credibility is not particularly high.

To add to that, WCB is a channel designed to take down Disney Star Wars because of their disdain for it. So, yes, they are going to look for anything to help their case. As apparently will you.

Second, this is a fucking global franchise. You can't base this off of one store on a YouTube video. Sure, one store might have been inundated with merch. It happens. But just because that one store does, doesn't mean all of them do. Hell, I could go run to Target right now and prove you wrong with a picture showing full price figures. But I have better things to do with my day.

So, I'll addend my statement and suggest: Unfounded assertion with limited evidence is limited.

I don't see any fairness at all. It looks like trying to take a shot at the franchise without looking for the reasons why.

And yet your credibility isn't so high.. you asserted that I made an assertion without evidence.

And it doesn't matter where the evidence comes from. I mean if it was a shill site, you would say "yup!"

And you complain that I move the goalposts
