News Benioff and Weiss Leave Star Wars

So anyhoo...

Great news and good riddance. Game of Thrones was one of my all time favourites ... up until Benioff and Weiss completely F'ed their own creation up the A in the final 4 episodes.

As someone who doesn't Throne (gave up after S2) and based on fan reactions and written reviews of how B&W handled the final season, sounds like SW fans dodged a bullet here. My feeling was relief when I saw this thread title.

Eh?? The release is precisely two years after 8, which was precisely two years after 7... doesn't that sound like a better schedule anyway?
better schedule. I'm not talking what is better.. talking what they announced to the public.. they announced a May release date for 9 with a different director.. just the facts

Yeah after how GoT ended I'm firmly in the "that was a close one" camp. They may know how to make a pretty show and are good at adapting material, but left to their own devices to create something original...yikes. No thanks! Netflix are welcome to them!

Just posting one more thing here and then I’m really done. Benioff and Weiss have a nine-figure deal with Netflix. Nine. Think about that for a second. I doubt they were getting that kind of a payday from Disney. As much as I love Star Wars, if I had to make a choice, I’d do the same.

we all know that. But vetting is an important part of the process of determining who to work with.. all that should have been taken care of before signing contracts and making public announcements. This is a leadership issue

I wouldn't put it past anyone at the possibility that SW contract that was imminent caused them to rush season 8, and then when they got to Lucasfilm they saw how badly it was managed.

But that aside, this is all about leadership.. not about a "new nine figure deal"

So SW can't match a 9 figure deal?

The Netflix deal came AFTER the Star Wars deal. I'm not certain how you vett a future deal. You don't think Jedi powers are real, right?

They didn't rush season 8, season 8 was actually delayed by an extra year to make sure they could film in winter weather and for extra time to process the VFX. Usually the seasons aired a yearish apart, season 7 started in July 2017, Season 8 in April 2019.

No writers in the history of Hollywood have gotten a 9 figure deal for a specific project. That kind of money is for an overall deal, and per every knowledgeable source, Disney was in the hunt along with Netflix and 4 other studios, but Netflix is going billions of dollars into debt to sign creators to these deals, so ultimately they won.

So Benioff and Weiss rush through the final season of Game of Thrones so that they can begin work on a new Star Wars trilogy, only to abandon it. Never change, guys...

This is another swing and a miss by Kathleen Kennedy. She sure has a lot of them.

I was a fan of Game of Thrones but I was had a lot of issues with many of the choices Benioff and Weiss made for the show. I'm glad they won't be making any Star Wars films.

I was more than happy with how B&W handled GOT and was looking forward to whatever they would have done with Star Wars. Oh well. There's plenty of other things cooking in the SW kitchen.

Well.. Back on topic if it were..

Considering they Only done Game of musical chairs.. Them getting a Star Wars commitment was questionable from my eyes, but since they got a 9 figure deal guess there a hot commodity.

That just clears the way for 2 things
1. Rians trilogy, which seems is not far along in script writing, which leads to..
2. The supposed Knights of the old Republic script that is being written.
So.. The question is.. What movie will be released in 2 years?? They need to get on the ball really quick.

I honestly do not understand where this idea came from that they rushed through the final season. It took them an extra year and it was almost half as many episodes as a normal season. How/where/in what way did they "rush" things? They took longer than normal to make less episodes than normal.

I knew this would happen. As soon as D&D knew they were secure with Netflix, they dropped Disney. The talk last year was D&D were getting a trilogy. Around the time GOT was wrapping up or after, that trilogy talk was reduced to one movie potentially.

Now D&D have left the building. The whole point of doing a year long hiatus for GOT between season 7 and 8, was to give themselves time to finish GOT and coordinate with Disney for Star Wars. They torpedoed Thrones and washed their hands of it. Now they're done with Star Wars before they even started.

They should've never given these blokes money.

Benioff and Weiss rushed the final two seasons of Game of Thrones in that they chose to tell the concluding chapters of the story with decreasing episode orders, which worked OK for Season 7 but was a disaster for Season 8 because they had to make characters make decisions and behave in ways that did not get proper setup and thus came across as either demeaning, inconsistent with what had been previously established, or hasty and poorly-thought-out.

The next SW movie is scheduled for December 2022, which is still more than three years away! They've got tons of time.

Just picking a random date, if they start filming in January of 2021, that should keep the schedule on track. That's still a long ways off.

Why are we letting a person who can't even be bothered to capitalize sentences derail thread after thread???
