I don't think I could stand 30 seconds of a show with your idea of the "right writing team".
If you liked Smallville or the 1996 Superman Animated Series, then you either could, or you're not really interested in Superman. You just want MSNBC. Batwoman is more your speed.
Basically, every Superman TV show has been overall pretty good, and Supergirl was too, until they decided spewing politics and pandering while checking boxes was more important than telling actual superhero stories.
If they're still alive here, I'm thinking his Clarks parents would probably be recurring characters. Then we could have the other staff members of the Daily Planet like Ron Troupe or Steve Lombard.
As for a tech support/scientist character Emil Hamilton or John Henry Irons/Steel could be good choices. It could be an opportunity to redeem Steel after the disastrous movie.
These are good ideas. And with COIE coming, they can reset continuity and even do some recasting. What's really a shame is that they had Ron Troupe on Supergirl--he was just played by Mechad Brooks and given a different name to be woke. But that just creates the opportunity for another actor to play him.
Steve Lombard would be a terrific addition if done well. Hamilton would be a good choice too. Maggie Sawyer could be on the show too.
The key though is not quite following the pattern of the other shows. We don't need a Team Superman. Superman operates alone. Troupe and Lombard would be coworkers. So would Perry if they have him.
I don't know if I would introduce Steel in Season 1. The real question is "do you do the Doomsday story?" It goes together with Steel, and could introduce Conner Kent. Of course, that's a tough story for CW.
If this show is about Clark and Lois together, then Superman wouldn't have a Team Superman--but Clark would have his friends and family. I would love it if Jonathan and Martha were alive. That's one thing Jon Byrne did post-Crisis that was for the better. I would guess that in this version, Superman is the disguise and Clark is who he is. So when he IS vulnerable, he turns to her for support. Based on the ideas above, that could mean Hamilton for science.
Imagine COIE starting off with the Kents dead, and when it's done, Clark gets a reunion with his parents, who in the new Earth, never died. And he knows.
What I'm curious about will be how old Jon Kent will be. He should be a few months old. I wonder if they will do some rapid aging thing.
There is so much they can do and make this a good show.
But there's a lack of female characters here. Lana Lang could be included; surprisingly, she's never yet been referenced in the Arrowverse. Chloe Sullivan's a possibility (and has been established to exist on Earth-38), though maybe she's too associated with the scandals around Allison Mack. If John Henry Irons is on board, Natasha Irons could come with him. How about Kristin Wells, Elliot S! Maggin's Superwoman from the future (and a descendant of Jimmy Olsen)? Or -- ooh, how about Lori Lemaris?
Lana would be interesting, and it would be nice to see a red head play the part again. Ma Kent, Maggie Sawyer (same actress) could also work.
I'm just saying that a series focusing on Clark in a post-Crisis universe hanging up his cape and being a stay-at-home dad while his buddies play hero - and all the existential drama that comes with that - presents a much more interesting story than just another low-budget CGI freak of the week series.
If they do that, the series wouldn't work. And it goes against Clark's nature, because that man chose to be a hero. He can't sit by and let others do the work. He can't sit by and see people in danger, even super powered ones, without helping. That's why Superman exists. Having him hang up the cape goes against what the character is. Superman is supposed to inspire. That should be the character.
As for Darkseid, THAT would be very ambitious and an amazing choice for a villain.
The best Superman story I ever saw on TV was the TAS version of Darkseid. If they follow that path, we could see Clark at his most vulnerable. Darkseid can match Superman physically, but has the cruelty to hurt him mentally. You'd need some serious effects to get it right.
CW can definitely pull it off, but they would have to be very smart. That TAS story worked so well because of the writing and powerful nature of the story, not because of the things that blew up.
