Is there a list of e-book-only Star Trek titles anywhere handy?

    Thanks.

I see there's a DTI e-book I didn't know about. I'll see if I can somehow manage to get it onto my cheap-ass tablet.

Turns out I did know about (and buy, and read) the third DTI e-book, Shield of the Gods.

Given the list, does anybody have any specific suggestions for an e-book-only release I should look into?

I liked Miasma. It was like an episode of a 1980s TOS revival.

The list seems to be missing "The Magic of Tribbles" by Terry J Erdmann, a "making of" factual eBook tie-in to DS9's "Trials and Tribbles".

I was not aware of that book’s existence, but like everything on my site, it was only intended to cover fiction, not non-fiction.

What is the general opinion on the Slings and Arrows miniseries? I've had them for a while, but I haven't gotten around to reading them.
I never really hear anybody talk about them, so I was just curious what people who've read them thought.

Thanks. I'm now about halfway through Miasma.

They need to be in physical print.

No they don't. That are good as eBook only versions. I liked them and they are well worth reading.

Yes they do! Digital editions are missing a factor that only physical books can add. Also you don’t have to worry about your battery dying!

I'm sorry, but I really don't see why so many people have a problem with e-book exclusives. There are plenty of way available these days to read them, and there are plenty of books still coming out in paper forms, so it's not like they're forcing you to read all of the Trek books in e-book form. Would it really be that horrible to just read the occasional e-book?

I don't worry about my battery dying as I have a Kobo Aura H2O. The battery lasts a good time. Plus we have a USB port in the car and I have a backup battery. That's when out and about. The thing is, if you take your pBook with you and you find it, what do you have to read if you didn't take another pBook with you? And remember, Star Trek pBooks are now in trade size and that make it not all that convenient to carry. My eBooks don't have that problem. There is nothing that a pBook can add to these eBook only Star Trek stories. And if you need say a larger text size to see comfortably, you can do that with eBooks. With my H2O, I can change the font, change the text size, change the margins, and change the line height. This means I can setup the eBook so it's more comfortable for me to read. None of that can be done with a pBook.

Very well said. If you have a smart phone, tablet, or Reader you can read these very easily.

Sorry, but even the trades that S&S use now are a convenient size to carry. I even had one in my pocket the other day.

USB port in the car or backup battery? That’s an extra cable and battery that you need to carry around.

Also, if I’m close to the end of a book, and I’m going to be out , I’ll take another book with me.

Also, I prefer having a tangible asset to show for my money. Not an intangible license.

I don't really see the battery running out being that much of all issue for people. Most of the batteries are pretty long lasting, and as long as you're not out in the middle of absolute nowhere it's usually not that hard to find a place to charge it. If you're in a situation where you need the battery to last as long as possible pretty much all of the tablets I've owned have had battery saver mode, which automatically shuts down and lowers the settings for stuff that tends to eat up your battery the most.
As for the license issue, I've been getting e-books and digital comics for a long time now, and I've never run into any problems in that regard.
I'm not positive, but I believe the DRM free books can't be taken away. More and more publishers seem to be going DRM free now, and even when they aren't there are, possibly not entirely legal, ways to get around that.

You have nothing to lose but your upgrade treadmills!

That said, I enjoyed Miasma (that planet seems like a good one foran all-Vulcan crew to explore).

Some people just prefer the full physical tactile experience of a physical book. That’s not a crime. And nothing is lost by reprinting ebooks in physical format. Exclusivity is against the spirit of Star Trek anyway - Star Trek has always been about sharing knowledge with everyone.

The cable in the car is just there. No need to carry it around. I carry a backup battery sometimes for use with my phone. But the cable I use is a micro-USB cable. It has an adapter on it to convert it to a lightning cable. So really, it's not a hassle to carry the battery around when I have my Reader with me. But I do make sure I am charged enough if I know I'm taking it out ahead of time.

It's not exclusive in a way that you cannot read these books. You can read these books if you want to.

Just as web-only TV (or even cable/satellite-only TV) is against the spirit of ST.
