CGI'd Data looks like Lores head from Datalore

I don't understand how a professional hair stylist/wig maker can misunderstand a person's hairline so badly.
They managed to get Young Spock's bangs wrong too in "Q&A".
I don't think that's CGI. It looks to me like a full-face prosthetic mask hiding Spiner's wrinkles. If it were CGI, it wouldn't look so puffy and would be a better fit to the younger Spiner's facial proportions.
I'm not sure about the face itself, but the hairline definitely has some CG alterations. When Spiner turns his head, the hairline moves out-of-sync with his face like a botched Snapchat filter.

The CG in the trailer is rough all over (the space battle looks like it escaped from the fan film Of Gods and Men, released 10 years ago), and features what I presume are placeholders (Discovery shuttles?). The CG in the finished episode, hairline and all will be much better.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I had a slo-mo look and in the very first moments (when he is still in profile) the hairline looks much closer to where it should be. Looks like the wig-wrangler did their job right after all, but someone decided it needed to be altered...and then did a poor job of it.

I honestly don't know what's more unintentionally giggle-inducing:

a) 1982 JC Penney mannequin with wig leftover from Saturday Night Fever...

or

b) "Tonight on FOX: Botox Gone Wild (with a far worse bowl-cut wig)"

In both cases, one has to roll with it. Well, it was worse in "Datalore". If Data is back in a dream for "Picard" then it can easily make sense as to why he looks vaguely different as dreams can be quite different to the perception of awakened reality and that's 100% rock-solid in my book. "Datalore" was just season 1 stumbling with what they had available (they wouldn't spend THAT much for a brief moment in 1987...)

Am I the only one paying attention? Data was blown up in Star Trek X, that's B-4.

Aw snap! You got me @Christopher , I should know by now the editing of trailers is canon and never misleading. ;)

Yeah, it’s not a dream, for some reason Picard and B4 are standing in the middle of the vineyard in 2399 wearing uniforms that haven’t been in use for nearly 30 years.

Maybe Picard misses the old days and forces B4 to dress up as Data so they can play pretend Starfleet.

i continue to hope these are just unfinished effects. but man, i kinda wish they just got footage from the TNG remaster and comped old data into new scenes. that seems easier.

LOL!

(To be fair though, trailers are often misleading and/or taken out of context. But I don’t think that’s the case here.)

Plus the Wig. THey can do CGI hair way better these days, so it's pretty clear Data has a new wig in that shot (again not at all surprising).

The hair is messed up by the CGI they used to smooth his face. The original wig they used for him is fine. If you look at the side profile when Data turns his head you can see that the hairline is completely different. Only when the face turns enough that it looks straight at the camera the CGI kicks into a high gear and hairline is messed up. Hopefully it will be fixed before the series airs.
