I’m overseeing a great group of young composers who have been scoring the new Short Treks. It’s been a lot of fun working with them. I myself am directing - and scoring - one of the shorts - it’s called “Ephraim and DOT.” Look for it to air in December.

He capitalized DOT, which makes me think the title is referring to one of the repair bots we saw on the Enterprise in Season 2, the DOT-7s

Ephraim was the name of the Tardigrade back when they originally planned on it being a starfleet officer, not an animal.
It’s also one of the middle names of the discoverer of Tardigrades.

This also means Olatunde Osunsanmi is directing the animated short trek ‘The Girl Who Made the Stars’ by process of elimination.

hmm i thought i heard shades of his kelvin timeline theme in the new short trek, nice little connection there.

More than shades, they play the opening of "Enterprising Young Men" as Spock enters the turbolift.

I'm guessing this is the first effects we're seeing of the CBS-Paramount merger.

They could license music from anywhere if they wanted to. It's more likely that it's an effect of Giacchino supervising the shorts' scoring. Much like how Jerry Goldsmith revived his ST:TMP themes when he was brought back to do the fifth and later movies, or Danny Elfman revived his old Batman theme when he scored Justice League.

OMG. I haven't sat down to watch "Q&A" yet, but that is rad. I love that song so much.

IIRC Kurtzman has said this short isn't going to have any dialogue, just musical accompaniment.
