News Brent Spiner Returned for "Picard" (and you could do the CGI better in 15 minutes, we get it)

I've already said it was a rush job for the trailer, that means it's not final, but even for the trailer, it's embarassing to have the hair looking like booboo, I'm more curious about why they are digitally manipulating the hair to begin with, because a full hairlace or even frontal hairlace for filming would be cheaper than having a VFX house do post production work to the hair
History suggests that you're correct about the rushed effects. History also suggests that whether they'll be better in the final version is probably a yes, but it's yet to be seen.

Anyway, I prefer to not panic and wait for the final version.

YMMV. :techman:

that's not on purpose, that's a crap job

They have 3 months of post production to clean things up. Don't get worked up. It was either something done as a placeholder, or something done on purpose. Either way, we'll find out in January.

let me put it like this, as someone who does some VFX work from time to time, I'm looking at it from that perspective, the perspective of a Visual Effects Artist, not merely a Fan, it's impossible for me not to look from a more Technical VFX perspective, it's impossible for me not to think about how embarrassed I would be if I were the person responsible for whatever it is they are trying to do with the hair, being under the gun to have it for a trailer that will be seen by Millions of people if not more, I would be royally pissed with how shoddy it turned out, regardless of being an Temp Shot. I'm assuming somewhere in these Forums there is someone who does that kind of work, and understands that perspective. there is no " It May be something done on Purpose" this is an unfortunate example of being rushed, people can try to think it's on purpose or whatever BS, but form a real world production standpoint, it's a rush Job that unfortunately stands out too much

I swear a boom mic could drop into frame and people would be saying "it's a DREAM SEQUENCE."
But IT IS a DREAM SEQUENCE.
And if a mic showed up it too could be explained away as part of the fantasy in Picard's mind.
It's a fracking 20 second scene in a TRAILER, that most of us didn't even notice was a problem till somebody more anal than I (and that's going some), posted a huge blowup of the shot, just to prove their point.
:rolleyes::rolleyes:
(see, I can use emoji's as well)

It stood out so much that I didn't even notice until it was mercilessly dissected on this message board. So, no, not a career-ending blooper from some CG staff.
it stands out enough that I was far from being the only person to notice, and nothing was said about Carrier ending, VFX Staff really is the proper term. the rest of Trek gets Mercilessly Dissected, it happening to VFX from the Trailer should not come as much of a surprise. I didn't genuinely dissect anything until someone asked me how I know it's CGI De-aging and not just thick Makeup, I answered that question, and I tried to do it thoroughly

Anal? well, I am an Asshole, I also have Schizophrenia(non hallucinatory) it could be said that it's in my nature to overthink everything, especially if it regards working on Visual Effects shots and not having the luxury of paying no attention to details. so Anal? okay

Data does look shitty in the new trailer. BUT since we're talking a old guy playing an ageless character from 30 years ago (and Picard won't be able to afford what Marvel does in their very expensive movies, which have mixed results too), it's just one of those things that we'll all have a laugh about then accept and move on.

Or "they'll clean it up in post". Bit late, isn't it?

It's a trailer, so an advertisement. That means you should put more effort into it not less, because you're telling people "this is what you'll be getting" . So if you fail to wow them here, you might turn off potential viewers.

So the new trailer seems to hint at Data either being just in Picard's dreams or in a holodeck program. What do you think, will he get a ressurection at a later point of the show?

Wouldn't it be easier - in terms of VFX - to just use something like deepfakes to plaster Spiner's head/face from the TNG era onto his present body?

Geees, perhaps you may want to try and get over it.
IT IS A DREAM SEQUENCE.
It doesn't have to be perfect.
Excuses have began. Look, I'll give VFX department all the benefit of doubt. It's probably a rushed/unfinished job for the trailer. But if it's not, then I don't have to make up any excuses for them. If they can make believe 30-year younger Samuel L. Jackson for a full move, then should be able to make a believable Data for 5 seconds.

Data isn’t ageless.

Data isn’t ageless.
The point is that it's supposed to be past/TNG Data, not "present" 2399/2402 Data. If they didn't kill him off in Nemesis and he was playing current Data they would more than likely just age him up a bit, and that would be totally fine.
But the Data is not supposed to have aged yet. He's supposed to be the same Data that we have seen A LOT of for seven years. That's why it's a problem.
