Spoilers Lord of the Rings TV series

I wish Sanderson would get adaptations. He is one of my all time favorites for fantasy authors.

I would be surprised if his work hasn't been optioned, but, I am surprised no one has pulled the trigger.
There's a lot of successful fantasy series that could be optioned for a bargain price compared to The Lord of the Rings. Look at Game of Thrones, while it was a successful book series in its own right, it wasn't the cultural phenomenon it is now until the TV show.

As long as we are wishing, I wish someone would revisit Jim Butcher's Dresden Files.
I actually want this far more than I want Sanderson. But, those are my top two wishes. I think both are incredibly enjoyable for their characters, and would enjoy seeing Dresden on screen.

Honestly, after GOT's success I am surprised there has not been more efforts to try and make that happen.

The boring as fuck Wheel of Time shit is getting adapted somewhere else,
Actually it's not getting adapted somewhere else, it's also being done my Amazon. They're also doing Conan The Barbarian.

I just double checked on Wikipedia, and it says that rights for the entire Cosmere were picked up by DMG Entertainment in 2016.

I have decidedly mixed feelings about this. On the face of it an LOTR series sounds right up my street, since I loved the films, and loved the book even more once I finally managed to read it (I found it an intimidating doorstop of a volume that took a bit of working up to and a couple of false starts), but...

What took my breath away about LOTR is the incredible depth of world-building, the richness of cultures, the fascinating characters, and the poetic soul and music, and I've a sinking feeling that's not what this series will focus on. Instead, it'll be a litany of violence and conflict that just happens to have Tolkien trappings, ala the games. It seems to me that conflict has ceased to be a means to a narrative end and instead, especially in US genre TV, become an end in and of itself, which is why the likes of GoT and Discovery have never appealed to me.

I'd love to be proven wrong, mind. Some fantasy that's genuinely fantastic, instead of just blood-and-thunder medievalism with a side order of magic and the odd angry dragon would be a welcome change, too.

Damn, Amazon's faith in the series is pretty damn strong, especially considering the public hasn't seen a trailer, knows the full cast, or hell, even seen a premise description or title of the damn show!

A lot of shows on streaming services tend to get at least a second season, anyway, to entice viewers to stick around and encourage new ones to sign up. "Oh, it got more than one season, so at least I'm not wasting my money on something that's getting canceled right away!"

Per Variety, Poulter has dropped out, supposedly due to a scheduling conflict.

According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, scheduling conflicts will prevent the “Bandersnatch” and “Midsommar” actor from joining the show based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Variety had exclusively reported on Poulter’s involvement with the series back in September. The exact nature of the role Poulter was to play remains a mystery, but the search for a replacement is now underway. Other actors reportedly attached to star in the series are Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Maxim Baldry, and Ema Horvath.

My wife is extremely sad over this :(

I would have liked to have seen a Children of Hurin mini series or Beren and Luthien, but they would have been incredibly violent, also.
