I preferred the Prime timeline.

Been a while since I've seen it, but in the TAS episode The Magicks Of Megas-Tu, when the crew discovers they came use magic, Sulu creates a beautiful woman (and not a beautiful man).
That one's a bad example, since immediately after he creates the woman and is about to kiss her, Lucien steps in and shockingly asks Sulu "What are you doing?" Which some interpret as Lucien knowing Sulu was gay and confused about him apparently being in the closet by pretending to be attracted to women.

Wikipedia says that Sulu is 3 or 4 years older. Birth month or rounding.

The wiki entry on Sulu, also claims that Cho's Sulu is Younger than Takei's Sulu. The character James "Ando" Kyler was forbidden to audition for Sulu by the Heroes producers, becuase it was hard enough working around Quinto vanishing for three months.

If John has been lying about his age for long enough, and his eternal youth, it's probable that he is a highlander.

I'm the 80's DC comics series, Sulu hooked up with M'Ress in the movie-era timeframe and his cousin Keiko when they were both teenagers (:barf2:)
I thought Sulu was born in 2237 not 2229. The Okuda Chronology has 2237. Nothing to contradict it as of yet. And George Takei was born in 1937. If you added 300 years to that, it would be 2237. Which is probably where they got the date from.

So I think my solution works.
In the Kelvin universe, their birth dates are a little different, although Sulu's is the same (which is weird cos John Cho is old)

^Based on age and experience the only person qualifed to be Captain at the end of ST09 was Scotty and he should have been a Lt Commander. Those writers made a mockery of the Starfleet structure.

Scotty only has interest in engine rooms.

The bridge can #### itself.

OH!

The alt birthdate for Sulu is from an "Officer Manual" printed in 1980, which should take precedence over Okuda's encyclopedia.

Sulu would only have to lie about his birthdate, or move his birthday, if how he is ageing is unusual, or even illegally unusual. Sure I said he's probably a Highlander, but this is Star Trek, so Hikaru Sulu is definitely a Superman.

:)

More specifically, the source they cite is the USS Enterprise Officer's Manual published in 1980.

The Star Trek Chronology is the standard now. It has been for over a quarter-century. Dates since then have been based off of the Star Trek Chronology or deviated only slightly from it when the Chronology was only speculating.

We're veering into James Dixon style territory now, so I'm bowing out of this.

The franchise would be more interesting if the TOS characters were not written to sublimate their career ambitions (Spock 'I have no interest in Command', then why hell take the XO position?) because the Great Kirk is destined to rule.

At what point has John Cho lied about his age?

John used to be the same age as Kal Pen.

One of them is still young and gorgeous, and the other is fat with a hump.

Speaking of Kal Pen, he also doesn't look the same age as Keenan Thompson anymore either. ;)

Again, at what point has John Cho lied about his age?

Yes, they made a mockery of the institution that allowed former enemy spy Garak, with zero Starfleet experience or training a position on the flagship's bridge during a critical battle during war. Where they gave a mere captain in a small fighter flagship position to begin with.
Or put a 16 year old acting ensign in the pilot's chair of a capital ship during a critical battle for the future of Earth.

Almost like it's a TV show and they do whatever they want.

Erm, that was a fan-made book.

There's a name I haven't heard in awhile! I wonder what he thinks of Discovery and Picard, and the forthcoming animated shows?:p

If he didn't truly die after ENTERPRISE & TREK 2009 fouled up his original timeline, then the current core of Treks shows probably finished him off.
