I got the vibe that the idea would be that tragedy involving Qi'ra was going to make Han skittish about getting involved with Leia. He seemed interested right from the get-go, but he almost bolted at the start of TESB.

There is a great edit of Solo clips in to ANH where Leia comments "I wonder if really cares about anything or anyone." It highlights what happens with him and Qi'ra and how it ended. It works really well.

Somehow I doubt Qi'ra dumping Han for money and power is going to make him skittish about women in general. It's been 5 years and we know for a fact that's been other women (there may have been one in the cantina, depending on which edit you look at.)

What took Han and Leia so long to get to it was their personalities and the fact that they drove each other up the wall. Luke's reaction after "the kiss" says it all for me; that these two have been at this for over three years and he's deeply amused by the whole thing, knowing they'd already be a couple if either of them would just admit it.

I don't think it was that simple. At least, not my impression of it.

I watched a fan edit of Solo re-titled The Coaxium Heist a few days ago, my first viewing of the movie since the theater, and rather enjoyed it. The Maul cameo is removed, L3's antics are toned down, Han isn't named "Solo" by some random imperial, there's a classic-style opening crawl, and the whole movie is given a color adjustment that makes it brighter and easier on the eyes:

I don't agree with every change made, such as cutting the squid parts on the cockpit gag, but overall, ditching Maul and the brightened colors made the experience a definite improvement over the official version. I think it goes to show that had Lucasfilm made this a Disney+ miniseries, giving us Han's famous attributes (the gun, meeting Chewie, shooting first, meeting Lando, winning the Falcon, the Kessel Run, etc.) in a series of unrelated and gradual adventures, rather than over the course of One cRaZy Weekend!, fans might have been much more receptive to both the project overall and Ehrenreich in particular, who I thought was good in my first viewing, but really good here. Ah well, at least we've got this fan edit, and that's not half bad. :p

    ^Sounds awful.

But what do I know? I loved the film all around. Especially L3's "antics."

Yeah, I'm hardpressed to see those edits as an additive to the overall story.

Yeah, I took a closer look at the details of the edits and whoever did this really had a chip on their shoulder about L3. Says that they removed the Droid sexualisation stuff because it was "creepy odd" (fair enough, but I thought it was amusing), but also removed all of the stuff about her not liking being watched and the Droid rebellion, which has nothing to do with the sexualisation. "Cut L3s lines to Han. Now she simply says 'excuse me'." In other words, they replaced all trace of her personality.

Yeah, this cut won't be for me at all. Sounds like the person who made it had issues.

"Solo" was a bad movie but fan edits are garbage.

Not inherently so. I've found a largely good fan edit of The Hobbit trilogy that scaled it down to a single (albeit ~4.5 hour) film that only uses material that was actually in the novel. Well, mostly. The Battle of Five Armies was still somewhat bloated but the editor did utilize the Bilbo-hit-on-the-head moment to cut out large chunks. The editing is professionally done and is mostly seamless, and I didn't notice any sound issues.

That one, I might have to check out. I really enjoy the Hobbit, but it is definitely a very long, overwrought story, that wasn't quite suited for the book. I'm not even an editor and I think I could figure some out.

I've seen fan edits of all three Star Wars prequel movies that are definite improvements.

Nope, it's still there. She's still introduced protesting the cantina not serving "our kind," which is her character in a nutshell, and she still sasses Han out of the co-pilot seat and starts the droid rebellion while muttering about "barbaric" restraining bolts. Yes, her characterization gets a dimmer spotlight, but it's not wholly excised, and certainly isn't "replaced."

Or maybe he just doesn't think a straightforward flick (and throwback adventure prequel) about a rogue learning not to trust others and to shoot first is a great fit for a very modern-sounding anarcho-revolutionary side character, particularly when there's another freedom fighter character much more central to the core plot?

All sweeping generalizations are made by small-minded individuals.

Obviously, that's a joke. Only many of them are, probably. ;)

I thought Solo was fine. There were flaws/problems (biggest for me was how he... Got his last name?!) But overall, I was entertained.

On the images above I do like the richer color to it, which is one of the technical flaws I have with the movie, it as too dark and drab.

Anyone else get the sense that the thing certain people find "creepy" about L3 has less to do with "sexualizing a robot" (whatever the fuck that means) and more to do with the fact that she's a female character that 1) has strong opinions about an oppressive social system and 2) doesn't have boobs to gawk at? No? Just me? OK then! ;)

For me the funniest complaint was about her walk, claiming it had "an over-exaggerated hip sway that was totally unrealistic." Funny because said walk was performance captured from an actual woman, with actual hips, who was actually on set for the shoot. Also; where exactly is the bar of realism for a self-cobbled-together robot's gait anyway?

I've found them to be very hit and miss. Some are good, most are bad and a lot of them just flat out make arbitrary changes that are in service to their personal preferences, not the telling of a story.
What usually determines the overall quality and validity of a given fan edit for me usually stems from the motivation of the editor.

For example: "Can I edit together the prequels and tell a condensed version of Anakin's story that remains coherent?" is a valid and reasonable motivation.
While on the other hand: "remove all the yucky girls with their man hating dialogue and put the emphasis on the male heroes where it belongs!" ....yeah, that one not so much. ;)
