Things that frustrate us all

I have to wonder, though, if you've maintained the same dosage of opiates for the last 13 years, should you maybe not be compared to addicts all the time?

Admittedly, it's really complicated in my wife's case. Before Fentanyl, she actually WAS addicted to Fioricet. It was an overdose of that drug (caused in part by the cognitively deleterious effects of other drugs that her then-doctor put her on, like Topamax and Neurontin) that almost killed her. And she spent some time off and on Ativan (I mentioned in another thread) that I would say were periods of addiction.

Anyway, shortly after i bit his face off, my friend posted an update saying that he didn't actually mean that opiods should be taken off the table as a pain management drug, he just chose his words poorly. (Given that his wife is a doctor, he really should have known better).

never mind, DV - the very same happened to my "argh"-thread, a few years ago. Great minds think alike and apparently we have a lot of those here.

My argh of the day: I have a deadline to meet and am far behind with my work anyway and all the time the phone rings and colleagues visit me at my office to ask for information and I'd love to unplug the phone and lock my door but I'm too well bred to be that rude. (And no, I am not wasting working time by posting here: this is in fact my breakfast break - at 1:30 pm...).

I am with you on every ounce of this rage train, although I was glad to read that your friend backtracked and apologized for poor word choice. My best friend died back in 2013. She had multiple congenital defects, some of which caused her intense pain. She literally could not function without opioid pain management. Her dad is a pharmacist. He knew what she needed to be on and why. BUT.

Asswagon married a woman who was jealous of his relationship with his daughter. What a winner. She decided that my friend was a drug addict and somehow managed to convince him that she didn't need to be taking all those opioids. So during the time my friend's husband was divorcing her because she couldn't serve as the little house cleaning maid and cook he apparently wanted for a wife (from being in too much frickin' pain and having no energy from a malabsorption disorder) and she was forced out of the house she lived in with him, they flagged her for opioid addiction and cut off all of her pain medication. She died three days later.

I will never forgive that garbage fire woman or her father for what they did, and I will fight any asshat who wants to pretend that pain management doesn't save lives.

So this new job? That I've had for maybe three weeks, but I haven't been assigned to do more than a couple tasks in?

H.R. just sent me a letter telling me to write a job description for it.

Isn't that YOUR damn job? Or at the very least, my BOSS'S job? YOU guys poached me, unceremoniously dragged me out of my old job and stuffed me in here, and you didn't even know what I was going to be doing? Guess what? You SURE didn't tell me! I'm here doing the campus surveys - part of my old job that they decided to keep me doing - and waiting for a vendor to finish developing a program that's supposed to BECOME a part of my job... but it won't be ready until next month.

I'm sorry about your friend. It's bad enough to cut off her pain medication but even if they wrongly thought she was an addict they shouldn't have cut her off so abruptly.

Thank you. It was so horrible and unnecessary, and I hate that she died in so much pain. I've also had friends who were addicted and dealt with addicts professionally as an officer. There is no denying it's a problem, but the solution is definitely not to take drugs out of the hands of people who need them or to abruptly cut people off who have had them in their system for literally decades. Her father should have looked out for her and didn't.

Maybe this should be in the "Things that frustrate us" thread
Meh. Whenever I get those my first thought is usually "Who did I piss off now?".

geez, and there I thought the situation in Germany was bad - they start selling gingerbread and chocolate santas in August here. Soon the sellers will overtake themselves as they already did with Easter stuff: you can buy easter eggs all year round now.
But at least so far they do find time to squeeze in 2 weeks for halloween decorations nevertheless. (Which is utterly superfluous since over here Carnival starts on Nov 11th and lasts 3-4 months, until Pancake Tuesday. Halloween should be reserved for those poor kids who have only that one day per year for dressing up.)

I like the sound of Pancake Tuesday. Must research.

AKA Shrove Tuesday. I believe it is actually a religious day, but for those of us who are non-religious, it’s mainly an excuse to eat pancakes for supper! :D

Is it not a thing in the US?
not that I've ever heard of but I've always been pro-pancake.

Edit: I guess here it's Mardi Gras (in New Orleans and some other places).

I was mortified when a teenage girl offered me her seat on the bus several years ago.
I'm 59 now and I'd still be mortified.
