Despite the buildup, I don't think Kor will end up killing L'Rell. They'll probably keep her around for a possible Pike show.

Also, we already know that Kor isn't chancellor in TOS, so.... that means he probably doesn't kill L'Rell in the comic. Because with the Klingons when you kill the Chancellor you become the Chancellor. Unless you're crazy like Worf who hands it off to Martok instead... :klingon:
 
Read the issue earlier today. I’m curious as to where this series will end and what tell will be told in the three issues. Also reminds me how much I will miss the 23rd century elements in season three of the television series.
 
Well, in the long-term, either way, L'Rell is doomed (Doooomed!) by the fact that they made her so chummy with the Federation. I find it unlikely that she's going to be the one responsible for the breakdown of negotiations in "Errand of Mercy," since she owes her reign to a Federation bomb.

Which, it seems from these preview pages, is the direction these comics are lining up with. What a wonderful world it would've been if they put the same emphasis on being a prequel into the actual show they decided to make, and subsequently doubled-down on being, a prequel.
 
I got the actual comic, it's more obvious on later pages.

He does seem to have pointed ears though, like the others.
Some shots he seems to have neck ridges like the other DSC Klingons. His chest also has some mild ridges down the centre.

Is it possible that he hands off the Chancellorship to his father? I don't think there's anything to conflict with the idea that he was a son of the Chancellor.

He seems to be acting as an agent of his father's in the first issue. My assumption is that he's actually a huge fan of "Mother" and will betray his own House for prestige and power. As a L'rellian, he will lose that prestige and be a simple frontline ship Commander by the 2260s, when the culture shifts.

Kor is a prominent member of House Kor in all future installments, prominent enough that he has power over Martok's career. I doubt he will betray his own house and lose standing with them, but who knows.

Well, the line of succession seems to be Rynar then Kor, so if Kor was to, perhaps secretly, out his father as plotting against the Mother of Mayhem, then he would be placed in charge of the House of Kor. He just seems a little more pro-L'Rell than Rynar.

L'Rell: What is this?
Kor: It is your death!
(Kor and L'Rell duel. Rynar shoots a Klingon who aims a phaser at Kor. L'Rell knocks out another who gets up on the stage to help.)
L'Rell: No. Lower your weapons. If this traitor wants a fight, I will give him one. You want to kill me, Kor? You're welcome to try.

[Corridor]

Rynar: What are they doing? Why doesn't Kor just shoot her?
Pike: I have a better question. Why isn't L'Rell letting her bodyguards kill Kor? I'll tell you why. Klingon honour. A concept you should be very familiar with. Mirror duplicates, on the other hand, don't care about honour. How did you put it? There will be no honourable combat, no formal challenges. Hardly the words of a Klingon. Tell me, Rynar, did L'Rell turn down the lights or did you?

The dialogue opens with Kor referring to her as Mother, and then Chancellor, both titles which Rynar finds insulting before going on a long dialogue on how she has ruined their House and dishonored Klingon ways. He then wants to strike at L'Rell then, but Kor steps in to stop his father by saying "<Leave 'Mother' to me.>" The next time we see him, he pledges his services to her when she visits his barracks.

It seems that Rynar is the one with an issue here, and Kor is just humoring his father. We're supposed to see Kor as an underhanded snake, maneuvering himself in place to take his revenge, but I think that's just to throw us off, and he will become L'Rell's greatest ally/asset.

But it's only one issue, I could be way off. He opens the story with "<Mother creates mayhem>", but this is probably a compliment, as Rynar is the one who defines mayhem as being bad, implying that Kor may have been referring to something else by mayhem.

Yeah but the final frame of the comic seems to imply something else.

And I noticed something interesting, the frames with Pike and Co, the room they're standing in is an Imperial hangar bay from Star Wars, OOF.

Although it's not canon and probably not even on this comic team's radar, Pike's lines in this preview work a lot better if you remember his fights with the Klingon Kaaj in Marvel's "Early Voyages" Pike comic (which strangely still mostly holds together even with Discovery).

Now that the comic came out, it
doesn't really jive with Errand of Mercy. Wouldn't Kor recognize Spock on sight in TOS? Especially since Spock outright used the name Spock as his "disguise"...
