Similar to Star Trek (or at least inspired by it I think, judging by the uniforms and bridge layout), yet NOT Star Trek, with a lot of comedy thrown in, some innuendo and general fun. I love it and can't wait for series 3. Who else has watched?

    Fun facts:

Dr Claire Finn is acted by the same person who played Kasidy Yates on DS9.
A random scientist in episode one (only appears in that episode) is the same actor as Richard Bashir (he guested as Julians dad) DS9
When Alara goes home to her insanely high gravity planet Xeleya, her father s acted by Robert Picardo who was the holographic doctor in Voyager, and Lewis Zimmerman (DS9, Voy)

    A few of us.
Marina Sirtis and John Billingsley have also appeared on the show. Seth MacFarlane himself was even on Enterprise twice, and Scott Grimes appeared in a deleted scene on TNG as one of Wesley Crusher's friends.

Sorry, I didn't see any in the page before I posted... not in the titles. I've only been a member for the last few days, so I'm still getting the hang of it and I haven't read a lot of the older threads. But thanks for letting me know :)

It's Star Trek with the serial numbers filed off and a bit of Family Guy humour thrown in. Fun fact: Seth pitched a Star Trek series to CBS years ago. He didn't let them saying "no" stop him.

I have never heard about this show. Yet I feel a instinctive need for the show to have it's own forum. Jason

I didn't know about him talking to CBS about a new Trek. Obviously he went ahead with his idea anyway, and I must say I love the result. It's funny as hell and I can't make up my mind who my favourite character is.

Welcome to the board. Here is the most current Orville thread regarding season 3, even though because the series isn't coming back for a long while, I'm not sure how active that thread will be:

As for the series, I enjoy it. I disagree about the whole Family Guy humor though because I've found it pretty subtle for the most part. In fact, Season 2 tackled pretty serious things in a very Star Trekkian way that didn't feel like it was pounding you over the head. I do think they could cut back on the Moclins though, just a tad.

    Thanks :)

Yes, they have tackled some serious subjects which is a good thing, I don't mind the humor to be honest, it made some episodes a bit more lighthearted.

As to the Moclans, it's a bizarre planet and culture. I guess they were trying to tackle sexism with the 'about a girl' episode in series one, and in series two when Talla ends up kissing that Moclan guy (bortus' ex from before he met klyden) and Klyden finds out and reports him for the 'perversion' of heterosexuality, I guess it was an inverse way of trying to make a statement about the stupidity of homophobia and how it destroys lives needlessly. You're right though, they're raising issues in a way that doesn't seem preachy, which is a good thing.

Welcome to a great board! I too am a fan of both seasons! I prefer season 1 as it has a more TOS-like style with some innovative sci-fi with some TNG-like sci-fi, character development, and intrigue thrown in, of which the latter most pays off rather beautifully in season 2. Season 2 did get stale, and given how many plot threads and running themes it was almost insulting that they would waste no less than two episodes on filler fodder like a smartphone - rendered worse in that any future technology interfacing with it will be hindered by limitation of said smartphone. All shows require suspension of disbelief but for me I couldn't roll with the sheer level of bypassing technical issues just to get to some soppy maudlin 21st century soap opera, in a show featuring 25th century characters that act as if 400 years and theorized human evolution haven't gone by as a result* rendering it even more overly underwhelming as a result. The episode also took precious time away from some fairly serious material, a lot of which remains up in the air or not given proper closure. Even the one scene where the computer removes the fake woman's fake boyfriend creating (surprise) a whole different fake life (which wasn't half bad) lacked the weight to overcome the episode's deficiencies. I apologize for sounding like Isaac or Sheldon or Spock. I've been tested...

    * which is part of its charm, for season 1's motif anyway). That and the Bortus pee-pee escapade (whose subplot with Earth kids being far more compelling instead of whizzing away a whole episode based on an exceeding superficial lampoon of "Amok time" into the toilet like that, literally... just imagine Isaac's log back to Kaylon Primary as a result of that episode. Why couldn't viewers get treated to that? Probably because it would spoil one big season arc because the viewers would want to do it first. And based on the season's ratings, that's what happened...

It’s also “GalaxyQuest”, just with people who know how to drive the ship.

Now when does Orville season 2 hit DVD?

I don't get that comparison beyond "Funny Star Trek alike", since Galaxy Quest is actually about a bunch of washed up actors who used to play sci-fi characters and Orville is about the characters inhabiting the sci-fi universe.

Wow, OK. Sci-fi is short for science fiction, it usually tells stories set in the future, or in the present, that deal with things like futuristic technology, aliens, and other scientific concepts.
You've seriously never heard the term before?

Oh, OK you were just screwing with me. The thought did occur to me, but I didn't want to just assume. I thought maybe English wasn't your first language or something.
