News Frakes: I Forgot How To Act

I'm not sure what he means when he says "Discovery will be more optimistic in Season 3." I never saw DSC not being optimistic...at least by my reasonable definition of the term as it relates to Star Trek. It wasn't exactly a dystopian, gritty, pessimistic presentation by my estimation.

Sure, there were tough things going on, and such is life..

Dunno.....once again, I have great fear that they are "overcompensating" after listening / reading some internet blowhards' take on the new series.

I hope it means that in DSC's new future (after the time jump), either 1) the Federation has not fallen, or 2) if it has, it will be restored.

100% agree on this.

I'll take it one step further: I hope the Discovery traveled too far into the future and too far from the boarders of the UFP to even touch upon what has transpired over the last 900 years. If they're going time jump, I'd rather see them do something like VOY and be in a completely unknown time and space, except get it right this time.

Frakes: I forgot how to act

I want to say this thread title sounds very encouraging. ;)

Of other note: I think "closer to Gene's Vision" in this case means no massive war with another race and Control isn't seeking to destroy all life in the Universe. We'll have a kinder, gentler Fourth Millennium.

Kinder and gentler because we won't have the Federation around to mess things up.

Gene's Vision™ is the same thing as Zefram Cochrane's vision. Both involved dollar signs and naked women.

Cochrane is a pretty obvious play on Roddenberry.

A substance-abuser worshiped by Barclay (himself a parody of Trek fans) and hailed for his vision of a better future for humanity and responsible for the "star trek", who really cared about money and naked women.

This continues to be my big concern with Discovery. It's constantly like that with shows. People bitching online who are never arguing in good faith and ultimately don't even care about the said show, movie, etc. It only results in alienating those that were fans and supporting said product.

Well it could be that they legitimately think Discovery could be more optimistic and upbeat. I certainly think we could see them coming to that conclusion regardless of what the internet had to say. The story arcs so far have been existential fights for survival, while shady elements of the Federation plan genocides and commit torture. Without any internet scouring, I could see how you might think lightening up is the way to go. I'd certainly like to see a season focused on exploration, so I'm happy with it, although I mostly suspect it's just one of those marketing catchphrases without a lot of real meaning.
