I'd like to watch Star Trek Picard on tv that's one show I'd like to watch the whole season on tv or watch it when it comes on dvd.
I don't see the current Star Trek shows being on any sort of 'regular' or 'cable' TV for a while, at least not until the shows run their course. CBS (and probably Paramount eventually if it rejoins the fold) will want to milk their All Access platform for the new shows as long as possible. Then, like they've been doing with Discover, release it on Blu-Ray/DVD (after they've maximized the online platform first). Once the shows complete their course then there will probably be "entire series" released in one Blu-Ray/DVD packages. Maybe then, once that's all done and they feel they've gotten every dollar they can out of the preceding platforms, maybe they will sell the series in syndication to interested networks. That's a big maybe I think, but I don't think it will happen until then. Me, personally, I guess I'm a bit old-fashioned. I don't do online shows, I still have cable. I know. So I have to wait until Discovery (and Picard eventually) comes out on Blu-Ray to see it. Would I liked to have seen it first run on TV like I did the previous Star Trek shows? Sure. But I've gotten used to waiting now so I'm cool with it. I know they'll release the shows eventually on hard copy so I just have to be patient. Everyone's happy. I still get to see the show, just as a later date. And CBS continues to make money on the show.
Well, how about this.. Contrary to popular belief.. not every one has unlimited high speed internet.. most city's and suburbs do, but the more remote rural people don't.. they may have a satalite, or a 4g box.. but with those, you don't have unlimited, maybe 10 gb or so (don't know off had the cap) so you can surf around but streaming video is a negative. So my parents live way off the betten path, and no chance of a cable or fibre being laid to them.. so they haven't seen the 2 season of Discovery yet! So, I belive, give it 6 months, maybe a year if you'd like, and then syndicate it, sell it to local chanels to run at like 6pm or 10pm or something when they don't have anything else.. Like back in the day when they had 9pm Tng on the local Fox station..

I love Laverne & Shirley... but I also haven't seen it in 30 years, so I can't say for 100% sure as an adult, but I like to think it would still hold up. As far as classics: I'll look at where Discovery stands a few years after it ends its run. I don't even want to hazard a guess until then. Right now, it seems like TOS and TNG are considered "classics" while DS9 is considered a "cult classic". VOY is probably getting a second look now thanks to both Orange Is the New Black and the trailer for Picard. ENT seems like it's in a weird in-between space. It's not '90s Trek but it's not New Trek either. It's what I call "New Trek by the people who brought you Old Trek".
Cable is dead. I eventually see all Trek content- films, shows, docs, etc all exclusively having a streaming home either on CBS AA or a dedicated Trek channel.
That is what DVDs and Blu-Rays are for.........sorry but they are trying to drive people to CBSAA. If they start releasing on iTunes or other networks that defeats the whole reason for having CBSAA. IF it ever appears on other networks it will be 5 plus years down the road-if ever.
When you come right outta the gate with this.........I can't take you serious anymore. If you don't like it, that is fine BUT Trek 2009 started the ball rolling and made Trek cool to new fans. We would not have 5 series in production without him. And really FUCK CANON..........entertain me.
If someone paid enough money for licensing (think what HBO paid for Friends) it could appear somewhere else. Of course Star Trek is not Friends so it’s not likely that it would happen.
While I agree that’s the future CBS and others are trying for, I don’t think cable is necessarily dead. It will however be significantly transformed, and it’s longevity depends on some factors unrelated to content. A lot of cord cutters probably still use cable as an ISP only. Whether that continues or not depends on how much longer the cable companies are able to milk more speed out of their miles of wire, and the price competitiveness of wireless providers’ networks, 5G, when it becomes a ubiquitous reality rather than the experimental toy it is now, will eventually pose a huge problem for them in urban, and most suburban areas. Whether or not there’s anything they can do to up their speeds will be interesting to watch. I suspect cable will be the ISP of choice in rural and lower population density suburbs for quite a few more years, especially given high bandwidth wireless has range issues. As for the content side, I wonder if the future of streaming is actually going to come full circle. Do, say, all the discovery channel family of shows get bundled under one streaming service? Do customers get frustrated with paying $10 a month to ten separate entities plus the isp cost so that they do not end up really saving? Will there be an appetite for a streaming bundler, and could the cable companies step into that role? Do the streaming providers at some point allow the cable companies to essentially make these services per month subscription channels like the HBO model to goose their subscriber number? It’ll be interesting to see. As for Star Trek, unless CBSAA fails, we won’t see it on regular CBS/Paramount/etc until it becomes a very old, cheap, syndicated show

That's not exactly what happened. Warner Brothers already owns Friends. They basically just moved some money around within the company to secure the streaming rights (at fair market value).
These discussions always amuse me. Because as a Canadian, I get to watch the new Star Treks on cable TV anyway.
I was going to bring this up earlier but I totally spaced it off... When I used the world 'cable' in the thread and the headline, I was really kind of using it as an umbrella term. Along with the traditional cable and satellite, I had streaming live TV services like Sling, Hulu Live and YouTube TV in mind. Although two of those three streaming services don't have Paramount Network, so I guess I probably subconsciencly neglected to mention them. But as I elaborated in one of my subsequent comments, I wasn't suggesting to dump CBS AA for a cable channel. I was suggesting perhaps maybe DSC, PIC and all other upcoming new shows could run on a cable channel sometime after they've ran on CBS AA. A form of syndication. Viacom owns a streaming TV service called Pluto TV. It's kind of like a Pandora Radio for TV. Lot's of specialized channels on Pluto TV (they even have a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle channel). If y'all don't know what Pluto TV is, look into it. It almost seems perfect for Star Trek... or at least older Trek. It's for the upcoming HBO Max subscription service.
The most I could see is them doing season 1 of Picard or Disco on TV just as a lure. The whole library is a differentiator so they need to keep it on CBSAA or Bluray unless they can use it to sell more subs or BRDs. They could do a special event, advertise the crap out of it, and use that to pull the people that like it in for a trial CBSAA sub to watch S2, and the other programs they have. It would also be a good way to lead into a new season so Picard S1 right before Picard S2 drops on CBSAA would be optimal for this kind of approach.
