Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

A good render of the Antares class variant

I assume Mike Minor was evoking a car spoiler on the Reliant design. Not sure when the first spoilers appear, but this is the first one I recall, from 1970. Definitely in that TOS design window, particularly if the Reliant had appeared in TAS.

Your overall point seems plausible, but, just as an aside, the feature in the Plymouth Superbird is more properly called an automotive wing, not a spoiler.

Whipped up the Starliner transport container today (@Bill Thompson, these are for you!).

I've often wanted that used as a secondary hull for a Battleship. A Dradnought saucer would go on top--but the saucer itself would be wider, and have two nacelles--like a Loknar. (Second Pilot nacelles)

The Starliner hull would have production nacelles--a bit longer.

Ready to paint my take on the TOS Miranda-class!

(Click on the image to go to my Flickr, then click it again to view it in a higher resolution)

You'll notice I've kept the ship free of greebles, given that the TMP Miranda was covered in them, and was perhaps the most greeble-heavy Starfleet ship we've ever seen. I'm a big fan of Jefferies' mandate that all the machinery is on the inside of the ship, so I've respected that with this model.

I placed a ball-mounted tractor beam emitter on the aft of the deflector pod, imagining that the Miranda is equipped for heavy-tugging duty.

You'll notice I've put the squared-off details from the Connie's engineering hull (Space Energy Field Attraction Sensors) where their TMP counterparts are on the TMP Miranda.

Pretty happy with what I've got. Going to commence with painting after dinner!

Looking forward to seeing some color on that metal spaceship :)

Unless you have another registry in mind, give her the Bombay's - 1926. You mentioned reading the Vanguard novels recently and she's supposed to be a TOS Miranda.

Very nice! As @Professor Moriarty already mentioned, I love that you kept the extruded hexagon on the ventral portion of the hull. As with the top insets so characteristic of the Miranda, you drew the perfect line between TOS simplicity without losing the details that made the design stand out. :)

Also, the details around the deflector are subtle and work out great. The simpler shape of the pod ended up being a great choice IMO.

Vanguard also has the Miranda-Class USS Buenos Aires. Just saying. :p

Can't wait to see it "painted"! Will you be keeping the red stripes along the saucer?

To have a TOS starship without red pinstripes would be illogical. :vulcan:
I think he’s referring to the red pin stripes uniquely on the TMP Miranda’s saucer top that flow out circularly from the registry and end at the Space Energy Field sensors or whatever there are.

And yes, I’ve already included them and they look great;-) I finished painting this beast last night and am detailing today. Stay tuned!

Hey wait (said I in mock irritation) those look a lot like orthographic views!
They are. The problem is that I can’t take proper, well-lit orthographic views from the only place I have everything assembled (textures, windows, decals, etc) which is the Unreal Engine. I can take orthographic images from Substance Painter (like I’ve done above), but I’m unable to assemble things like decals and windows in that program. I’m still investigating other options, because I want to make nice orthographic images of my finished products as well!!

Thank you for answering the question I was about to ask ("whaddya doin' this in?"). But Unreal is a renderer, isn't it? What are you using for a modeler?

I've worked all day polishing the crap out of this lady and I'm very tired, but I've managed to take the final screenshots before I let my exhaustion take me.

Here she is, the U.S.S Buenos Aires NCC-1660 from the Vanguard series of novels. I originally wanted to go with the Bombay (also from Vanguard), but Prologic9 depicted that specific Miranda with his take and I also wanted to pay tribute to the wonderfully talented @Rekkert, who resides in Buenos Aires ;) A reminder that I went with a very non-greeble approach to her and wanted to stick with the 11-foot Enterprise filming model detialing, therefore I didn't add any visible weapons or gratuitous paneling, relief, or specular variation.

^That's a ball-mounted tractor beam emitter on the rear of the deflector pod, similar to the one I modeled for the TOS Enterprise hangar bay.

Let me know what you think! This certainly was a challenge designing all the details that differentiate it from the TMP Miranda, and trying my hardest to set mine apart from other artists who've taken this project on. I'm happy with most of what I've done, but felt I could've come up with something more interesting for the aft portion of the bottom of the saucer. Anyway, I wanted to wrap her up today so after trying a few different configurations I decided to just go with what I've got.

And with that, I'll just leave this here

;)

I'm still not wild about TOS Rollbars on Mirandas...

That said, I think you did a wonderful job with the ship. I think my favorite part is the pylon arrangement, looking similar to the TMP one but different enough that the canon ship resembles an upgrade from this one. I think the detailing around the underside and sensor pits are perfect to make it look visually interesting without being terribly overstated.

Ultimately I think this is one of the best TOS Miranda efforts i've seen!
