Our immediate supervisor has been gone less than a week due to a promotion, and suddenly it's like everyone else in the department has forgotten large parts of what their jobs are. I feel like I've been running behind kindergartners cleaning up their messes. Three of them want her position. I wonder if they honestly think that's how they're going to get it.

Is the tap water in your region so bad that you have to buy the bottled variety? In my area, we are so lucky as to have excellent tap water - no chloride, almost completely chalk-free and very tasty.
Speaking as a supermarket cashier, I have no problem with pointing out to someone that they have too many items for the express -- but if they choose to come through anyhow, I can't stop them.
