Watched the first episode today, and I really enjoyed it. It really wasn't nearly as over the top dark and gritty as I was afraid it would be from the first trailer.
I thought the way they did the flashback to the Graysons deaths as Rachel's dream was a nice way to show us Dick's origin in a way that was interesting and didn't bring the plot to a screeching halt.
I'm curious why Kori is after Rachel. I had assumed she was working with Dick, but if she was I would think he would have know who Rachel was before he talked to her.
The reason the bad guy was after Rachel was not what I expected.
The introduction of Beast Boy at the end was pretty good.

Oh god, Doctor Light is 1000% going to rape one of the female Titans, isn't he? I know it was Sue Dibny in the comics, and that he was a mostly goofy JLA/Teen Titans villain before that terrible comic retconned him into a rapist, but there is no way that the most grimdark superhero production ever made will be able to resist using that. The only question is who will be the victim. I'd put money on Dove, but the show is edgelord-y enough to go with Raven (and I'm pretty sure that would also be underage rape in the context of the show, which would be even more appealing to the sociopaths who run Titans).
Doctor Light rapes Raven, then Starfire burns him alive and Krypto eats his corpse. Or maybe superboy just pulls a Man of Steel (which he will definitely do at some point on the show, so it might as well be with Doctor Light).
Also, talking about the poster, I know this has been an issue since season 1 but if Star Trek in the late 80s through early 90s can paint Brent Spiner white/gold for over 100 episodes, at bare minimum Beast Boy can be fucking green for 10-12 a year. Starfire I understand is just pretty much a metahuman serial killer who dresses like a prostitiue in this continuity, so there is no reason to paint a human orange when she's not an alien, but Beast Boy is presumably still a guy who turns into green animals (well, only one green animal apparently, because this show has a budget of about $1.75), so how about spending a few bucks to do what is presumably a fairly cheap make up job at this point of painting a guys face and hands green.
Well, I'm not over the top, especially not in this case, but when someone is a fanatical fan of something like Titans I can see how someone pointing out how crap it is might not be entertaining. Luckily, I don't give a single shit if any particular individual likes or agrees with my posts, so
That said, if you think this show won't gleefully have one of its female characters get raped, you have never watched the show, its as simple as that.
How much of it have you watched so far?
I just finished episode 4, actually. I wanted to watch some superhero tv that I hadn't seen, and it was either this, Krypton or the latest seasons of Supergirl or Legends of Tomorrow, and I figured at least Titans might be slightly entertaining in a trainwreck sense, and I'm already prepared for how crap it is, so why not waste time with it. But even beyond that I've already read all the spoilers for the season, and between what I've seen and what I've read, I know that everything I've ever said about it has been justified.
Everyone is such a murderous psychopath that it would make the Punisher tell them to be less violent, and literally none of them even remotely resemble the real characters outside of Hawk, Dove and Raven kind of looking like the comics versions (although, again, DOVE SHOULD NEVER EVEN PUNCH SOMEONE, MUCH LESS MAIM LITERALLY EVERYONE). So, yeah, once again when I watch something, I find I was right all along. The only thing I didn't predict was that in between the pathetic edgelord stuff the show would be extremely boring (if I have to see Raven get captured one more damn time, I'll screen so loud people will hear it on the other side of the planet)
The only thing I'll give it is that its slightly more interesting then the non-Flash CW shows, because at least it hasn't been repeating its terrible cliches for 3-4 seasons (yet). Its inferior writing/production quality wise to those shows, but I'd rather be pissed at serial killer starfire then at Supergirl mindwiping her sister for no reason or at Legends of Tomorrow for making every one of its characters into a Scary Movie-esque farce character. Its a more interesting kind of terrible, basically, although I still wish it didn't exist, and its still technically the worst live action DC show of my life time.
If you think I'm making fun of rape, you're either not paying attention or deliberately misunderstanding. I desperately do not want rape in a DC Comics show (or in any show/movie/comic/etc). But, in a show where even Dove is a violent psychopath and everyone is a violent piece of shit in general, if you think they won't use the rape angle with a character who at this point is most known for his rape of sue Dibny (assuming DC/WB lets them do this, which to be fair it might be the one line they aren't allowed to cross), you're fooling yourself.

Oh I understand you think rape is just something that happened once in a comic book and that it's cool and edgy to post an elaborate rape fantasy of a teenage girl to hyperbolically trash talk something you don't like.

I know the show has taken things farther than some of the other adaptations, but I find it very hard to believe that they would actually take things that far. I really don't see any way enough good would come out of a story like that to possibly counter the anger and backlash it would cause. I would like to think Johns, Berlanti, Goldman, ect. would be smart enough to realize that.
The MCU managed to bring in Hank Pym without making him a spousal abuser, despite the whingeing of the same parties. I think that DC will be able to manage to bring in Doctor Light without making him a rapist.
I don't know what happened to Dr. Light in the years leading up to Identity Crisis but I have never thought of him as a "silly" villain. Back in the Bronze Age he could be formidable and often a little frightening. He doesn't need the IdCrisis story to make him a "serious" villain.
Some people don't seem to understand that an adaptation is free to pick and choose what it uses from the original and isn't required to copy it exactly or repeat its mistakes. That's the whole value of an adaptation, really -- you get to distill the best parts of the original and leave out the parts that didn't work the first time. It's a second chance to get it right.
