Honestly I think that Comixology unlimited is the way to go if you read enough series. They not only have the catalogue of material from nearly every publisher, but there is also a discount if you purchase comics. I think DC is 15%? So, if you buy enough comics then it is like you are getting the rest of the catalogue for free.
I would have done that in a heartbeat but it’s not available in Canada. VPN is not a sufficient workaround as I also need an American credit card.
I don't think that is true--I have never tried to subscribe to unlimited but I have bought comics on four continents and never needed an American credit card.
I looked and you are right--only available in the US. That's really odd because it is not like a television streaming service and it seems they make deals with individual companies.
Many books have different copyright deals, release dates and even publishers across countries (occasionally the very titles are different), so I’m not altogether surprised regarding comics. It does say they plan to expand, but I expect it’ll be like Netflix—different selection per country.
Same reason more music is available to purchase from Apple than “rented” via Apple Music? (just guessing)
This is kind of cool, back on the 2nd DC had a bunch of girls from the WriteGirl program in their offices for a special program. 40 girls ages 13 - 18 from the program where there, and they worked with Mariko Tamaki, Cecil Castelluci, Sarah Kun, Amy Wolfram, Nicol Goux, Monica Kubina, and Cat Staggs to put together their own comics.
*Groan* The release of SHAZAM! #7 has become a never-ending story. Coupled with the constant delays of Doomsday Clock and Three Jokers, no wonder there are conspiracy theories floating around about TPTB now having it in for Geoff Johns.
I don't know of anywhere else to put this, so I will just put it here. The upcoming animated movie Wonder Woman: Bloodlines will be coming with a new short focused on Death from The Sandman comics. Here's the description in the article:
Some bad news, Superman #15 and Supergirl #34 have been pushed back again for a new release date of September 18. Considering Superman #15 is set to introduce the new LoSH, it makes you wonder what the hell is going on there. Also, G. Willow Wilson will be leaving Wonder Woman, with October's #81. Taking over in November with #82 will be Steve Orlando, so it's not all bad.
the delay is certainly annoying. I've been waiting for Supergirl, so it sucks it's going to take so long for it to come out.
Young Justice #8 is gonna be 5 weeks late, as well. Bendis apparently blamed a home office paperwork snafu. But with these delays, plus those of all the Geoff Johns books, it's certainly not a good look.
Yeah, if slowdowns are hitting Johns too, that would definitely point to more that just an individual problem that Bendis is having.
Superman 15. Spoiler Superman Annexes Earth. It was pretty subtle, but anyone else who thinks that they should represent Earth on the United Planets Council, will not be happy.
So Tom King's final Batman issue is #85 coming out in December (though he'll still do the Batman/Catwoman series), and now DC has announced that from January's #86 James Tynion IV will be the new writer of the main Batman title. I like that idea. I really enjoyed Tynion's run on Detective Comics, as well as his JL Dark title, and I'm very happy when he makes Scott Snyder's JL title a more coherent and comprehensible read. I guess I'm buying the Batman title again (especially since DC goes monthly with all their twice-monthly titles come January). The art team is very good, as well, with Tony Daniel doing the pencils and Danny Miki doing inks.
I am enjoying JL Dark, so I'll try out Tynion on Batman. It will be nice if we can finally get a readable Batman book for the first time since before Grant Morrison took over.
