Learning Blender by Modelling an Early Federation Starship

Up until this point, I've exclusively used 3DS Max for my CG projects, but with Blender 2.80 on the horizon, I've decided that it would be useful to learn a new program. There are lots of things about Blender I find intriguing, such as its built in sculpting tools and its real-time rendering engine.

With that in mind, I have started a new starship project, as a way of learning the ropes of Blender. I know there are some gifted CG artists on here that use Blender, and I might need to ask a few questions from time to time if I get stuck! I may also use GIMP for the texturing and post production work, so that the project will use only free to use software.

The ship design is early Federation, and clearly owes a lot to the NX-Refit, but I wanted to give it a more muscular spin. The model is currently in the blocking stage, getting proportions right etc, with high resolution modelling coming afterwards.

Some people are tired of TOS prequels but there could still be some good stories to tell about the early days of the Federation. And of course some cool starships.

I agree, there's something about the pre/early federation designs that is holding my interest, at least for now.

Yes yes yes, but is there any more on the actual model? ;)
Haha, hopefully I can dedicate some time to it next week. :)
